By: Daiyu Tang – ‘The Girl Behind the Lens’ (and still not Maja, nor a Trash Panda like someone!)

Hey, do you hear that? It’s the sound of Father Christmas fast approaching on his homing missile sleigh towards Hathian. Have you been naughty? Have you been nice? Are you going to get a lump of coal like Maja will find stuffed down her or will you get something from Santa’s sack (and if you don’t – you can always ask Carly Cox who knows where to find a ‘sack’ that has ‘presents’).

Anyway, welcome to another Month in Review in the ‘wonderful‘ town of Hathian and surrounding areas. As always, the Observer does what we can to shed light into the dark of our town but also, if we can, find playful or joyous moments that might bring a little relief to those needing to feel that not all is oppressive.

Our team is a little short-staffed at the moment, although we have had some lovely guest contributors recently and as always we welcome citizens sending in their thoughts, or even calling us at the Observer when an incident is going done. Yes, call 911 first, but at least with us you’ll only get shot by a camera, so do call us second!

As you’ll be aware, the ‘Month in Review’ showcases a few of the articles from November that we hope you didn’t miss, but if you did gives you a chance to visit them! For those interested in seeing a digest of some of the top stories, you can checkout our Year in Review for 2023 the January 2024February 20224March 2024April 2024May 2024June 2024July 2024August 2024September 2024 and October 2024 ‘Months in Review’. We do intend to do a Year in Review for 2024, but we’ll see how that develops!

We had 25 main articles in November, some (a few…) being scurrilous slander from Maja, but I did try and ensure we were available to do high-brow stuff as well. Anyway…

So here are your Editor’s top three for this month as well as honourable mentions!

Honourable Mentions

Well, as we said in October it was the case that very sadly, the missing student at Columtreal Sabrina Morningstar, along with her cat, appeared to have been murdered.

Not sure this is ‘honourable’ but it is certainly horrifying and puts to bed the lie that CU is completely safe.

Oh, but guess who did the taunting and murdering? That’s right, see our NUMBER 1 article at the end of this… who has blood on his hands (and not from medical work) oh that’s right…

This is still front page, although the photo is from the back…. So we won’t spend too long here, but Maja was at it again, this time finding the commander of the rub n’ tug legions in her sights….

Number 3 – The Future has New Starts

It was a wedding event that went well. No fires, no bombs, no brides jilted at the alter (and no bridesmaids jizzed under the table – probably) where the Hathian bakery owner and HPD senior staff member Lizette wed another officer Koh.

With faces new and old making an appearance (Who would have thought Landon Fyre would be giving the bride (and his former patrol partner) away?) it was a lovely day, where for once, everyone got what they wanted from the day and left alive and well.

Number 2 – But the Past is Full of Ghosts

Part 1 and Part 2 of our series looked at the things that had made the City tick that had got into the newspaper. Obviously, some things don’t… but hopefully it was a trip down the memory lane of the dearly departed, the dearly forgotten and the sadly still here dangerous ones?

We’re currently collating a retrospective on Hathian PD and on the Hathian Gangs and welcome any reader insight, so get in touch with a journalist on your memories and what stories from our archives you want to see featured.

Number 1 – While in the Future Simon is Full of Spunk

Look, I’m not a fan of Maja but Simon threw a hissy fit about all journalists in general and that was after we carefully and fairly put across his view and that of his staff about HPD shenanigans that impacted him. Yes, I as editor, then choose to call out his hiring (or otherwise support) of Alice Crow, but rather than focus on the fact that the City’s Newspaper Editor and the City’s Worst Terrorist for the first time agreed that the decision was crazy, he doubled down and told the Observer to basically ‘fuck off’.

Spunky. It doesn’t just mean what is in the gunk tanks in HGH (according to Maja) it means having fighting spirit and taking your shots. As a doctor Simon is well qualified in giving shots, but perhaps less so in receiving pointed sharp feedback on hiring? Maybe he should put me on the books to actually manage his PR disaster? What do you say readers, are you siding with ’employ a mass murderer’ or with ‘hire some Public Relations?’

As always, catch a reporter in CU, Hathian or Backwaters (we visit as required!) to give us your stories, tips or other information! You can find our profiles here which, as noted in the intro we expect to update with new staff shortly!

((Promotion of the Observer and CD happens off-sim as well, so if you can help out feel free to link to your other SL friends. Spread the word, the active stories and see if we can’t generate new role-players or encourage others to return!))
