They say dear reader, that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery but I have to confess that when, in late July a new Twitter account from Hathian started spewing 140 characters into the ether, I didn’t see it as imitation (I value my work) but as laziness; a so called ‘gossip’ account that actually doesn’t really share gossip, but rather tries to put shade on people, or hint at things that probably need real work. You can go read it yourself if you want, but I leave you with just a few thoughts as you read, what I hope you find more relevant, interesting and informative – The Hathian Observer.

We’ve outlived so many gossip accounts – I guess I can suggest it’s a matter of transparency. I’m Daiyu Tang and you might dislike me, but you’d probably in company and that, along with the fact you know my name probably means we’re doing a good job. Our reporters don’t hide behind anonymity and we certainly don’t sit still, tweeting to get news.

Anyway, perhaps it is time to prove that and so without further ado, here we go again dear Hathian reader.

It’s time for a Month In Review where we showcase a few of the articles from June that we hope you didn’t miss! For those interested in seeing a digest of some of the top stories, you can checkout our Year in Review for 2023 the January 2024February 20224March 2024April 2024, May 2024  and June 2024 Months In Review.

In July 2024 we had 29 main articles published… A little down on the 31 or so in June but still… What do you think, how are we doing? Where should we be focusing?

Anyway, here are your Editor’s top three for this month as well as honourable mentions!

Honourable Mentions

Well, it’s the season… we’re not sure quite what it’ll bring this time, but we do know that weather fronts are approaching. Hopefully not as bad as last year (or many years) I still have a feeling there will be some surprises. So check out our storm warning!

Well, assuming the Nightmen are the same people as on Twitter, then the Nightmen don’t cometh appears to be a trend. Still, the Gossip Twitter suggested one of them had perhaps had a shower recently. Thumbs up! Anyway, check the article out for a ad placed by this Hathian Group and see what you feel…

When you teach classes on drugs, perhaps don’t deal them or dope students… it wasn’t exactly clear, but suffice to say ‘Drugs With Buffy’ is now without both drugs and Buffy who appears to have been jailed for quite a while!

Read into the article and maybe decide CU is now safe enough for you to enrol now the ‘drug queen’ has been sent down?

And now for our majors…

Number 3 – It Was Wet & Wild (& They’re Still Together)

Well, this one had it all. Bride! Drugs! Rejects! Yuugen! Aquatic Threats… Anyway, having risked it all to cover one of Hathian’s biggest weddings so far this year the Observer is pleased to report that Eamon and Delinda appear to still be going strong. Well done.

Number 2 – It’s Been A Year

The destruction of the HGH is forever a stain on this town, but since then, in some parts, we might even say a few things have got better. Perhaps the shiny building doesn’t interest you, but at least Simon appears more stable and in command of his hospital. Beyond the HGH itself, we saw the FDH, HPD and others do, in general, what they are meant to do – protect the weak from the bad people. Thank you to the first responders.

Number 1 – Tough Times For LSD, HPD & FDH

((You can click the subtitles for the original article.))

Being a first responder is a dangerous job. You deal with terrorists, you are subject to vitriol and hate and constant attack. The LSD reported attacks during the month, while at least two HPD officers appeared to have died during it. More tragically, Shyla, a FDH Hero was murdered by the cowardly Yuugen leaving Chief Pentewyn having to plea for reconciliation and peace. Sad times.

And that was all for July dear readers! Many thanks to my staff their work, and thank you to anonymous citizen journalists as well. You are doing great work!

As always, catch a reporter in CU, Hathian or Backwaters (we visit as required!) to give us your stories, tips or other information! You can find our profiles here (and it’s not a dating page!)
