Well, this is frustrating as having to repost this after our website edition fell over. That means I have to write it from scratch! So maybe my top three will have changed for February? Anyway…

Well, it’s now into March so time for when we tell you the key stories of February 2025! If you didn’t know we do a monthly series, January is HERE and we did a wrap-up of 2024 (which you can read HERE if you didn’t read it at the time). Well, what can Hathian do in just one month to make the news? Well, as always plenty as it happens.

February went a bit faster than January. It was more explosive and murderery for a start. We wrote around 25 main articles and I am pleased to report as well that there were no journalists injured in the ‘line of duty’, although our Bank Balance took another hit after we injured the pride of one HPD officer.

Anyway…

So here are your Editor’s top three for this month…

The FDH Recover From an Explosion

The explosion reported at the FDH caused significant damage and injuries and whether it was linked to gangs, rivalries or just plain bad luck as the HPD assessed in terms of poor driving (and subsequent link to a weapons raid noted below) we don’t 100% know. Still, the FDH did what they do best and proved resilient against the threat and worked hard to rebuild. Our interview with Chief Pentewyn demonstrate why, in the Observer’s view, the FDH is the sharp tip of the spear in Hathian’s emergency services.

Vipers – ‘Arms Dealers’ Taken Down

HPD Inspector General Krystal-Napper provided the Observer with a statement post the raid on the pawn shop where it appeared that members of a notorious (rebranded) Koga/Vipers (now Vipers) were taken down for arms dealing, including the explosives that might have been part of what happened to the FDH.

I would like to say that I find many of the alleged gang members friendly, but evidence was provided that showed at least some proof of illicit activity and even the most jaded reporter would suggest that the transporting of explosives should NOT lead to collateral damage. Since I am not that jaded, I can’t condone at all this cycle of violence fuelled by illicit activity. People need to know that they are playing with their (and other’s) lives for little return.

“To Be or Not to Be…”

The Observer was given a horrible gift (or at least a temporary new piece of much needed office furniture) when the Rejects brought a human face / skull into the Observer. HPD confirmed that it was former member Jackals member Jarrah who it seemed had had the audacity to push one too many Reject buttons.

Murdered and displayed, the Rejects seem quite happy to get an interview in on it, articulating that Hathian needed them as the ‘Top of the Chain’ to perform ‘pest control’. Surely many had had awful experiences with the Jackals, but the same could be said of the Rejects…

What do you think Hathian, should there be a ‘Top’ and do we mind being often collateral to their struggles, or is there another way?

Well dear reader, that about concludes the news round-up for February (again – hopefully I won’t need to do it for a third time!). As always, catch a reporter in CU, Hathian or Backwaters (we visit as required!) to give us your stories, tips or other information! You can find our profiles here although this does need a bit of an update.

I look forward to graduating later this year, I hope that you have enjoyed what we’ve done and that some of you might well furnish me with a reference for my dream of New York, or Washington or somewhere like that. Exams this year – but in a way I, and my team, have already passed the most important exams right? Hathian’s Mean Streets. Please see this link for a chance to join the Observer, get some coaching from me (I make a mean coffee) and perhaps start your journalism career, or even more!

((Promotion of the Observer and CD happens off-sim as well, so if you can help out feel free to link to your other SL friends. Spread the word, the active stories and see if we can’t generate new role-players or encourage others to return!))
