At approximately noon on February 1, 2025, an explosion occurred at the Fire Department of Hathian. Preliminary findings indicate that a vehicle containing explosives was driven into the bay doors, resulting in a devastating blast. At the time of the incident, Chief Trevor Pentewyn, Lt. Rog Messmer, Firefighter Corbin LaSalle, Firefighter Eleri Goldstein, Firefighter Clarissa Fairchild and Probie Nova Creekmur were present at the station.
Tragically, there was one fatality and a firefighter and two civilians sustained grave injuries in the explosion. Our thoughts are with them and their families during this difficult time, and we extend our heartfelt wishes for a full and speedy recovery.
The impact of the blast has left significant damage to our station, particularly to our emergency vehicles. Among those damaged were our primary ambulances A-1, A-2 and a ladder truck, leaving us with only one operational ambulance. We ask the community to assist us by making their own way to the hospital for minor injuries if possible. However, we want to assure you that emergency response remains our top priority, if you are badly injured, do not hesitate to call 911.
At this stage, we cannot comment on those responsible as the investigation is ongoing and remains under the jurisdiction of the Hathian Police Department. We will fully cooperate with HPD as they work to determine the cause and those accountable for this heinous act.
Despite the overwhelming adversity, I want to express my immense gratitude to the firefighters who, in the aftermath of the explosion, stood their ground and extinguished the fire at our own station with limited equipment. Your resilience and dedication to protecting this community are extraordinary.
I would also like to extend my sincere appreciation to Dr Simon LeMarchand and the staff at Hathian General Hospital for their unwavering support in ensuring our critical life-saving operations continue. Your assistance has been invaluable in this time of crisis and we could not do this without you.
The Fire Department of Hathian remains committed to serving and protecting this city, no matter the obstacles we face. We will rebuild, we will recover and we will continue to stand strong for our community.
