The Competition Is Getting Fierce

Hathian citizens, earlier this week the Observer pushed our first batch of citizens who had either self-nominated (less common) or who had been nominated by their fellow citizens. Our first batch of nominations gained a lot of coverage and the Observer editorial team was in particular pleased to see such a range of nominations across different citizens and different professions. As a reminder the background to the Mr & Miss Hathian 2023 competition can be found on our website.

In this article we’re covering our next batch of competitors. To keep it simple, we’ve laid it out the same as the last batch, but we’ve switched it around a little allowing a little more freedom on picture choice and for the first time seeing a second nomination for someone.

As we noted last time, with the recent destruction of the HGH, we included questions to our nominees about how that made them felt. Many provided moving responses which give us hope for Hathian. We continue to be impressed by the response of many and as at the 21st July the HCS / Pawn Shop charity initiative had reached $65,000+ a huge fortune in Hathian.

There’s still time to enter your nominations. Get writing to us Hathian! The deadline for entries is the 31st of July 2023. As we went to the press, we received another two nominations, so it looks like there will be a final 3rd batch of nominations toward the end of next week.

Know someone you want to see featured? think you’re good enough to self-nominate? Get those nominations ((notecards)) in to Daiyu Tang at the Observer! Without further ado, here we go, round two:

The Nurse Who Grew To Be A Doctor Saving Lives Humbly

Emily Wood, maybe this isn’t a name you’ve heard in Hathian, but if you were involved in the HGH incident you may well have had your life saved or injuries treated by her. When she’s not busy saving lives she’s tearing it up for the girls on her inline skates. The nomination we recieved said that:

“Emily knows medical. She is a walking textbook and knows what to do when something has gone wrong with you. She works very hard and isn’t prepared to not try for a positive outcome. As someone who is doing right by Hathian she should be a worthy nomination!”

Anonymous nomination

The Observer loves to hear about those who help and fight against the nihilism that certain purple haired purveyors of chaos spread. We interviewed Emily over e-mail with our standard questions:

How does being nominated make you feel?

“The first thing that came to my mind when I found out about the nomination was that I was afraid it’s someone’s mistake. To be honest, I feel awkward, because, first of all, I don’t like contests in which you need to participate. Secondly, I do not consider myself a worthy contender for the role of Miss Hathian. It makes me smile, I’d describe myself as ‘Emily is a Miss. no, no, no….‘ But someone nominated me! Someone from the residents of this town considered me worthy of the title. My heart is beating faster and you see, it is of importance to me, because I feel I might have do something for the prosperity of the town by participating in the competition!”

How has the recent HGH incident affected you and what do you think about it?

“The recent incident made me cry. I’m a girl, not a robot or a superhero. I was scared! Working in a hospital, I see a lot of people with serious injuries. These wounds are often senseless in their cruelty, but I have always seen only the consequences of human sadism, which I have struggled with. Sometimes it seemed that I was losing something important, looking at a series of violence, it seemed that I was becoming indifferent to the suffering of people, but when in front of my eyes in the windows of the hospital, as in a showcase, patients were tied to the bed, whom I carefully bandaged yesterday, fed with a spoon, I was shocked. Taking people hostage, many of whom can’t even get to the toilet themselves, is inhumane. I’m ashamed, but I had a real female tantrum… No, I’m not hardened at my job, but I have a question for the people who carried out the seizure…Have you at least checked if your parents or friends are among the patients? Or was everyone supposed to die in this meat grinder? I’m sorry, I don’t have the strength to keep talking.”

Who in Hathian is your inspiration and why?

“I have friends who have supported me more than once in difficult moments. Real, reliable friends. We laugh together, if the mood is good, I complain to them about life when I have no strength at all and I want to be a little girl. These people are always standing behind me, and this is so important in our time. During the seizure of the hospital, one of them worked with me as a volunteer in a field hospital, and your colleague, by the way, worked in the centre of events. And you know, when it was over, he was sitting here shell-shocked by the explosion, but did not ask for help, because others were in worse condition. Do I still need to explain who inspires me and why? John, Nataly – I love you!”

Spurs – Credit John Childermass ((DarkStalker Darkfold))

Another strong contender for Mr. Hathian hailing from the emergency services, it’s Spurs, Spurs Seattle. Nominated by someone who observed his work during the HGH emergency they had this to say about him: “He’s really good in the E.R. and always ready to help and he was a hero during the raid on the hospital. We need more people like this, who make it through the years and continue to uphold their oaths and do good.”

The Observer approached Spurs, who in this reporter’s opinion is definitely in the hot side of ‘old’ and asked him the usual questions. We didn’t find a social media profile for Spurs, but if you do know one, let the Observer know… for picture research purposes of course!

How does being nominated make you feel?

“Well I’m very honored of course, and to be honest kinda surprised. I’m a low key guy, not really a mover and shaker in Hathian like some others. But still, it’s a kick to be nominated!”

How has the recent HGH incident affected you and what do you think about it?

“As a paramedic in this city, the loss of our primary trauma facility has been nothing short of devastating to say the least. While senseless violence does happen here, I don’t think any of us expected it to occur in the bastion of safety and healing that is HGH. My hat is off to all the staff of HGH who rallied together at a makeshift facility to treat the incredible number of wounded and who continue to make do daily to support their patients.”

Who is your role model in Hathian and why?

“Honestly, the people of Hathian have been and continue to be my inspiration. Watching how this community has come together in the face of incredible adversity is nothing short of humbling. You all have my sincere gratitude!”

The Observer feels that perhaps Spurs hasn’t met *all* the people of Hathian as some are celebrating the failure to protect the HGH and worse, but never-the-less a glass half full attitude is exactly what we love to see in this city. Good luck Spurs!

“Stay Safe Out There, I’m Always Ready To Protect & Serve”

Officer Exley

Our next nomination has gone to Officer Liam Exley of the CUPD (Columtreal University Police Department). The nomination said that: “Officer Exley is one of the few officers we know and trust on the campus. His helicopter dick routine is legendary and he can drink with the worst of us and still be the best of us in the morning. Thanks for keeping the campus safe!”

Exley has featured in the Observer before, being interviewed shortly after he joined the CUPD. You can read up on him more here, but he also answered our standard questions as well. Will he be your Hathian Hero and Mr.Hathian for 2023?

When approached for comment, Liam said “Wow, thanks, so cool. I’m hoping it’s a good thing to be nominated, things are so ‘effd up in this town!”

  • When asked about how he felt, he said: “Being nominated is an honour and privilege, makes me feel appreciated in my adopted city.”
  • He reflected on HGH and added: “We’ve tightened security around campus, particularly on bigger events, so we have more to do, but I love keeping the students and faculty safe.”
  • And finally he told us that: “My Hathian Heroes are each and every student as they work so hard to achieve their goals and dreams, year on year! Or is that a cheat answer?”

Officer Exley kept it brief, unlike some of our other entrants! He also takes his briefs off at the pub for a routine every now and then, but don’t tell his boss that! ((oops))

Y Tu Mamá También

In a first for the competition so far, Why Verdandi, who has already been nominated has scooped a second nomination alongside Corbin LaSalle, her apparent partner! The rather tongue-in-cheek nomination that we received said:

“She’s an adorable 22 year old MILF with a great butt and a DOMinant personality. He’s a sweet and nerdy 18 year old who’s new to life and fun to be around”

Anonymous nomination received at the Observer’s offices.

The Observer provided the nomination to both Miss. Verdandi and Mr. La Salle and while Miss. Verdandi was perhaps less impressed, it is clear she has fans for both her brains and her looks (and her age gap with her boyfriend Corbin!). She acknowledged the nomination, but provided us with no (printable) further commentary.

But don’t fear, the Observer spent time speaking to the other half of the duo, Corbin, who provided us with the following quotes:

Daiyu: “How does it make you feel, being nominated that is?”

Corbin: “How does it make me feel? I mean… Happy I guess? That someone voted for me… Thanks. But I don’t really do much for this place. I just make coffee and serve people food. Sometimes I help out the dishwashers in the back. Not like I’m out here saving lives though… Well, there was that ONE time I saved one of my friends from the beach when it tried to eat her. And I’m not even joking! But yeah, that was just one time. I’m just chillin out here usually, not trying to bother anyone. Anyway… Love and peace!”

Daiyu: “And how about the hospital, what did you feel when you saw your town hospital explode?”

Corbin: “That stuff with the hospital? Craaaaazy. Like, that’s where you supposed to go to get better. But it doesn’t surprise me all that happened, honestly, ’cause all those gangs are always out here acting like nobody but them matters. They should all be locked up forever so nobody has to deal with their bullshit anymore. At least they got some good people in Hathian still, ya know? Like the pawn shop crew and HCS been raising all that money. So our city isn’t ALL bad… I mean, I DID see a dude get stabbed right in front of me a year ago or whatever when I was waiting at the bus stop. And he died, and no one even cared! But, I mean, it’s not like I ever saw something like that again. The bus stop’s pretty chill most of the time. Some lady even showed me her boobs once when I was over there.”

Daiyu: “And finally, your inspiration in Hathian? Who moves you other than Why?”

Corbin: “My inspiration? Probably, uhh… Dale, the fire chief? He’s a real G around Hathian, always out doing the most for people. I talked to him a few times, and he even said I could join up with the fire department. But uhh… I can’t do all that right now. But yeah, if more people were like Dale, then… They’d be cooler. That’s all I gotta say.”

The Crow Calls

No, not the Brandon Lee one, nor the angry bird lady from Dead by Daylight, this is Lucy who was nominated alongside Dr. Romanov in our previous batch. Lucy, a one-time contributor to the Observer was rather disappointed not to have made the deadline for commentary in the previous batch, so we’ve allowed her some extra space, which she asked to include a gallery of pictures. Of Her. Lots of Pictures. Of her. You can see them above. Tells you something right? We of course also got her responses to the questions as well:

Lucy: “Dear Daiyu, your patience is lacking, I am way to busy keeping my fiancé company, but here you go, my answers. The world needs to know how gorgeous, sweet and lovable I am. I am the perfect fit to become Miss Hathian.”

  • How does being nominated make you feel? “It means a lot to me. Long have I lived in the shadows of my Mother, sisters and old friend. Now I have found a fiancé whom sees me for who I am and nominated me to become Miss Hathian so I could spread my wings and be the bird who I’ve always wanted to be. I’m thankful for that.”
  • How as the recent HGH incident affected you and what do you think about it? “My fiancé wasn’t able to work at the location due to the incident, which meant he had to work from home, which meant he’d spend more time with me. Obviously I feel sad for those poor unfortunate souls, including me, when he’ll have to work overtime when things turn stable again”
  • Who in Hathian is your inspiration and why? “I am my own inspiration. In life I’ve learned to never give up, no matter how many obstacles the world throws at you. Including people who tell me who I should be, how I should act, and how I should dress. I grew tired of that, I wanted to be my own self, decide for myself. I don’t need an inspiration, to think that I could be just like them. I want to be like me, to be true to who I am. I don’t need the world to tell me who I should be.”

Well, thank you for that Lucy. Best of luck!

The Firefighter With The First Day From Hell

Cheyenne Jones (‘CJ’) – picture by John Childermass ((DarkStalker Darkfold))

Following on from the nomination in our previous round of Chief Warrhol we have received another nomination, for another member of FDH; Cheyenne Jones (‘CJ’). This round the emergency services are well featured, although I note not HPD! Our nomination sent into the Observer read as follows:

“I want to nominate CJ because she’s a total badass firefighter & medic. Her first day on the job was in the middle of the Yuugen hunt and it was a baptism of fire that she handled like a trooper. She works hard as a public servant saving the lives and livelihoods of the people of Hathian.”

Anonymous nomination

CJ was totally cute when informed she was nominated. We managed to get over her shock and elicit her responses to our normal questions!

  • How does being nominated make you feel? “Being nominated was a HUGE shock. It makes me smile every time I think about it. I literally feel like I’m buzzing with happiness over this. So, to sum it up, it makes me feel awesome!”
  • How as the recent HGH incident affected you and what do you think about it? “The HGH event was horrible. Literally nothing good came from it. I’m so sorry it happened and I only wish we as FDH could have done more. We did what we could to preserve life and even after while looking through the debris we did our best. Its just very sad.”
  • Who in Hathian is your inspiration and why? “My role model is actually my peers at FDH. To name a few, The Chief, Rog and Spurs. They are great guys and I’m constantly learning from them. Each of them have their strengths and I’m so happy to work with them each day.”

Here at the Observer we really like our FDH colleagues. We have no idea why the HPD seems to be giving them grief over the HGH incident. As far as our reporters on the scene could tell, they worked together and the building collapse was no fault of anyone but the terrorists.

Good Luck Everyone!
