The Hathian Observer has been asked by the Mayor’s office and in conjunction with our emergency services to carry the following advisory.

“Citizens of Hathian. I have today held a meeting with key civic services in the city and on their advice I am issuing the following message telling you to prepare to shelter-in-place. This means that you should be prepared to lock yourself down in your home, office or other secure location and not venture outside until an all clear is given.

Follow the instructions of first responders in the FDH or HPD, but be prepared that they may not be able to reach you in an emergency. Close and lock windows and exterior doors, board windows where possible and ensure window shades, blinds and curtains are drawn. Go to an interior room preferably below ground level and without windows if you are far enough inland. If you are near the coast you should evacuate inland, but if you cannot, use a room above anticipated storm surge level. Bring all family, lovers, pets and secretaries into the room. If you do not use a basement, use duct tape on the inside of the windows. Listen to the radio, local TV or the Hathian Observer website for emergency information. During a shelter-in-place instruction remain in the protected room until the shelter-in-place is lifted or evacuation orders are issued.”

Hathian Emergency Services Prepare

The FDH has designated their building as an emergency shelter. They will provide hot drinks and meals if required. In addition, with the HGH still closed, the Hathian Theatre or the CU Clinic are the designated emergency medical locations.

Generators – Warning

It should be noted that some businesses, while usually very proactive in supporting the community have been advertising that they can provide generators. Emergency Services wish Citizens to know that there are significant risks related to electrocution (due to water ingress) or carbon monoxide poisoning if a generator is used inside. The Hathian Observer also notes that fuel supplies are very low and should be prioritised for the emergency services themselves.

Other community minded individuals, such as Oba with the Street Dawg Motorcycle garage have more practical support available; boarding, sandbags and more. Contact him to obtain these…

Expected Landfall

Currently, meteorologists are expecting conditions in Hathian to continue to worsen with the worst effects somewhere between the 7th and 10th of September 2023. Stay tuned to the Observer for more details and more accurate predictions as we get them.
