Wrapping her arms around history

We’ve featured (former) deputy Cohen before in this newspaper. The deputy having had more than her fair share of bad luck and misfortune working out in Laveau. Over a few months that we have worked with the LSD on some of their more recent incidents we have reported on her being:

We now understand that the approximately late 40s to early 50s officer has transferred from the Laveau Sheriff’s Office to the Hathian PD where she can be seen on the beat around the streets of Hathian.

From our writing and some discrete inquiries in Laveau it certainly can be said the former deputy had been through the thick of it. Perhaps she was not quite able to adapt the same way the tough Detective Derryth has managed and who certainly has managed to keep both her arms.

The idea that people want to just hurt you for little reason, or escalate small reasons into horrific abuse must have been foreign to the lady from Boston.

Then again… perhaps a move from Boston to Laveau in the first place is worthy of follow-up?

Boston

Just an interlude.

  • Voyeurism
  • Interference in justice
  • Bearing False Witness
  • Consorting with banned groups

No reader, we’re not reading the bible, we’re just having a hypothetical review of crimes that I, at least in Hathian, haven’t seen prosecuted that well. It would be amazing if the wheels of justice in Hathian led to outcomes like what we’ve heard, but here, perhaps… the ‘justice’ is that delivered on the street. Whether that is a price worth anonymity is a question that only a few can answer.

Interview

Cohen, pictured left before the loss of her arm (see main pictured) agreed to answer questions from the Observer outside the HPD at the end of July.

Since then, we understand she remains an active member of the department.

Observer: “Hi! Do you mind if we ask you a few questions?”

Officer Cohen: “Ahh Miss Tang. If you want some press release about something that happened in the city, I’m afraid I be the last one to ask. You best get a comment from one of the senior officers. I suppose seeing me here is a bit of a surprise.”

Confirming that we weren’t there to ask about the HPD more broadly and instead focus on Airika herself, we continued:

Observer: “May I ask what happened to you? Last time I saw you, you were working for Nikki and the LSD.”

Officer Cohen: “It’s quiet in town so you got me at a good time. Well, since you last saw me… I guess you can see I lost my arm… Now the experts said it was caused by an infection and it had to be removed to save my life, so of course it had to go… but I have my suspicions. Anyway, I was abducted in Port Laveau twice, scarred and now mutilated. I think I gave my pound of flesh for Port Laveau. I needed a change and I guess that was two hours away in Hathian.”

Observer: “Any idea who did it… you made it sound like well, it wasn’t a natural infection… and well, just in my view you’ve given more than what people should give…”

Officer Cohen: “I must have been given something because my memory is fragmented. I remember the Asylum but then everything else… Well I don’t know. A beard maybe, but then is that just imagination seeping in, whose to say. I could go on a killing spree over there, trust me, a lot of them deserve it but that would not be the proper and legal ending to this tragedy. And I’m all about observing the law, Miss Tang.”

The asylum, that is where Nikki had suggested led to Cohen and after the issue with their opening paranormal investigation, where apparent gang members or criminals took over to commit abuses, perhaps the place should be investigated further…

Observer: “Look, I’m really sorry for what must have been traumatic… but I need to ask one or two more questions… There are matters related to you and those reflect on I guess your new employer… Have you turned over a new leaf after Boston?”

Officer Cohen: “Well it was time for a change, who need snow for winter when you can live down here on the gulf. So I guess it is a turned over a new leaf. Boy, Miss Tang, you are very intuitive but unlike most in Boston, I am not Irish so that angle is bust.”

Observer: “So… let me put it this way… Would using paperwork about Boston PD… Hit and Runs… Voyeurism be the right thing, observing the law as you put it? You are going to play good cop here right? An honourable sacrifice in the LSD… and an honourable career in the HPD, doing the right things?”

“I am always what you called a good cop, Miss Tang. I might have been overzealous in Port Laveau , that maybe but I always have our citizens first. But excuse me, what are you referring to hit and run, voyeurism… I think you been click baited. Very fake news! Wherever or whoever told you these lies, you need to discard them!”

Officer Cohen

The Observer decided to leave Officer Cohen with some professional advice around turning new leaves, and being well in mind and action. Being in law enforcement meant doing the right thing, that kind of thing. You’d agree with that lesson reader? But we weren’t quite sure that Officer Cohen quite got it…

Officer Cohen: “As for HPD… I have only heard great things about this police department and look forward to a long and happy career, well the five years left till police retirement age at least!”

Well readers, the official comment is “No Comment”. But maybe a few dots can be joined, whether by you, my dear readers or perhaps by a few firing neurons in Officer Cohen, who might well decide that turning a new leaf, really does mean doing good. No lip service in Hathian right readers? That was Boston.
