The Renaissance festival (26th to 27th August 2023) was a jovial affair that attracted people of different age groups and inclinations. The event was organised to allow citizens and students in Hathian and the University to come together and imagine what life must have been like in the past. It allowed for fantasy and good food. Participants were encouraged to dress in their best Medieval costumes or fantasy wear.
Fantastical Escape To History
Organised by Zariah Scott, she and organisers transformed the CU football field and locality into a medieval tourney ground, dotted with tents that offered an array of attractions. Those who loved the legends of knighthood and chivalry trotted around in their armour atop horses. Those interested in archery tried their hands at that noble sport.
Magic Was In The Air!
As you moved toward the back of the tourney ground, you would have fonund a group of students outside a Witch’s tent, where they were hosting a lively discussions on the ancient and deeply present tradition of magic in Louisiana. The topic of Voodoo opened the door to a debate about whether it is ancestral worship or ritual magic and guests also contemplated the prosecution of witches over the years.
At every turn, one was able to learn, enjoy, or dress up on the occasion. Guests’ costumes have only added to the air of the jubilee, observer photographer and reporter John, has documented some of the well-thought and executed garments.
The CU Campus’s own Murphy Pub sponsored the drinks at the fair which was great for everyone to be able to imbibe without as much restraint as prices would normally warrant!
