May 4, 1996 – July 26, 2024
Luke Ray, 28 was born May 4, 1996 in Hathian Louisiana and tragically died July 26, 2024 in the city of his birth.
After completing a Bachelors in Criminal Law at Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire, he went on to the New Orleans Police Academy and graduated with top marks. He took a position at the Hathian Police Department in 2014 where he served for 3 years working closely with such upstanding officers as Lieutenant Krystal O’Neil, Sergeant Nickolas Matfield, Corporal John MacConner and many others. He then went on to spend a proceeding 7 years with the New Orleans Police department, earning himself a Superintendent’s Coin for Service of Excellence.
He is survived by his mother, Heather Ray; father, Dustin Chestnut; twin brother, Victor Ray; his nieces Rey Ray and Theda Ray; and his nephew Tormund Ray.
Family and friends are invited to attend memorial services in Luke’s honor on August 24th, 2024, 2pm at the Memorial Moment Funeral Home in Hathian. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make donations to Luke’s favorite charities: Grow Dat Youth Farm ( https://growdatyouthfarm.org/?ref=causeartist.com ) or Liberty’s Kitchen ( https://www.libertyskitchen.org/?ref=causeartist.com ).
Special thanks to the Hathian Police Department, for their diligent efforts and to the Sunny Day Daycare for ensuring Rey, Tormund and Theda were safely returned to their mother, Gidge Delaney, on the day of his disappearance: the safety of his family was always paramount to him.
Not, how did he die, but how did he live?
Not, what did he gain, but what did he give?
These are the units to measure the worth
Of a man as a man, regardless his birth.
Nor what was his church, nor what was his creed?
But had he befriended those really in need?
Was he ever ready, with words of good cheer,
To bring back a smile, to banish a tear?
Not what did the sketch in the newspaper say,
But how many wept when he passed away?
