July 26, 2024: a visiting officer from the New Orleans Police Department came into Hathian to spend time with family. Former HPD officer, Luke Ray, picked up his two nieces and one nephew from the New Orleans Airport to bring into town to be returned to their mother’s care.
He, reportedly, dropped the children off at the SunnyDay Daycare Center in Vodou, stating that he would only be leaving them for a few hours to run a few errands, then return to take them to a beach day. By the end of the work day, the staff at SunnyDay grew concerned as the children had not been claimed. Officer Ray had left contact information and when his phone went to voice mail, they reached out to the emergency contact, their mother.
The children were picked up from the Daycare without incident, but no sign of Officer Ray has been reported since dropping off the kids at daycare. Included below is a photo of the missing officer.
