Shane Dakota. Remembered for Her Music, Her Heart, and the Family She Built

It has been one month since the funeral of known singer and songwriter Shane Reese Dakota. A beloved mother, fiancée, musician, producer, and friend, Shane passed away on July 19, 2026, at the age of 24.

Born in New Orleans, Shane came to Hathian while still a teenager and grew into a woman whose life became deeply intertwined with the people and community she found there. Those who knew her will remember her for her unmistakable Southern warmth, her energy, her humor, and the fierce loyalty she showed to the people she loved.

Music became both Shane’s passion and her career. A talented singer, songwriter, and music producer for Rize Productions, she built a life around creating and performing music, eventually touring as a solo artist after her time as the bassist for the band After the Fall. For Shane, music was more than work. It was one of the clearest ways she expressed herself and connected with others.

Beyond everything she accomplished, Shane was most proud of being a mother. She leaves behind her son, Owen, whom she loved deeply. At the time of her passing, Shane was engaged to Grant Josephus, long time friend and another Seaside High graduate.

Shane also leaves behind the family she found and chose, including many friends from Rize Productions who became family along the way. Among them were Emily Rose, Joy Saad, Jordan Rizzo, and others whose lives were permanently changed by knowing her.

Shane’s life was far too short, but it was not a small one. She loved loudly, created fearlessly, and left pieces of herself behind in her music, her friendships, and most importantly, in the family she cherished.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
