Press Release from the Laveau Sheriff Department (‘LSD’)
On the evening of the 21st July 2024 while on a routine patrol of the dockyard, a flayed hide was noticed draped over a squad car stationed there. On closer inspection, it was discovered this was human.
The head, facial skin and skin from the hands were missing to preclude identification by those means. The lack of blood at the scene also tells us that the skin was taken elsewhere. Also, there was no blood on the skin itself, indicating the victim had been drained of blood prior to skinning.
The skin itself had no forensic evidence such as fingerprints. It did show signs of rope fibres, plastic and formaldehyde.
There were incisions in the skin that corresponded to autopsy and embalming and traces of a bleach based liquid were upon it that also indicate cleaning and preparation for burial.
Other portions of the skin are missing, perhaps lost during the skinning process. We consider that those may well have been to prevent identification.
We will be checking in with morgues and funeral homes to see if any of the bodies in their care have been stolen.
Our investigation is in the preliminary stages and we will let you know as me find out more.
The Hathian Observer was able to get a few shots from a local source of the investigation. Thank goodness for long lenses as we imagine the smell was pretty awful!
