((Trigger warning: Attempted Suicide))
The Observer brings you the very sad news today that Lucy Crow, known through Hathian as one of our colourful and interesting characters attempted to take her own life by jumping from a building in Hathian.
The streets of Hathian are a dangerous and unsafe place and many of our residents are troubled by the past, or their worry of the future, or deep seated trauma that has brought them to Hathian.
It would be cruel to speculate what made Lucy jump; the act of suicide is a hugely personal and private decision, although for some it can be a final attempt to seek help when others have failed. Lucy’s Twitter, normally a motely collection of nice photos, rants, social commentary and her often fractious public relationship with her husband shows no extraordinary indication of what was to come which is a sad reflection on suicide – it can happen without explicit warning signs.
Our witness reported that citizens, including some who would otherwise be expected to place no value on human life attempted to calm Lucy. A shout of “Lucy, come down!” given as our witness explains it genuinely with concern for Lucy, was taken though as encouragement.
“Coming!”
Lucy
Welfare & Support
The Observer invites all our readers to pause for a moment and think. We all know people in distress, temporarily and sometimes more long term. Some cope with substances, some cope through their anger and violence against others, but some are fragile and need help. You can get help. You can provide help.
The following resources are available immediately:
- The 988 Suicide Prevention Line (available in all US States)
- For Veterans, a special line is available
As well as these resources, for those worried about a friend or colleague you have many of the skills required to help them. You care, you have a voice and you have a sympathetic shoulder. Most of all you have listening skills. Use them. Hear the people around you and help support them with their distress.
Broken Wings
For those who whipped out their camera phones and recorded her fall, when you let the video out among your friends for a ‘laugh’ as you likely will, you are harming her and others in the future. The attractiveness of a quick escape is amplified by the easy access to such material on forums and dark corners of the internet. We implore you not to share and to delete it.
Lucy is gravely injured. We believe she is alive, but it must be touch and go as she was airlifted to NOLA due to the HGH quarantine. Please keep her in your thoughts and keep all those with troubles in your mind as you try and be better and do better. The comments some of you posted are awful.
