Coastal officials have closed the beach in Hathian as the massive oil slick, now 130 mi. wide in the Gulf Coast, made landfall yesterday. Coast Guard is attempting to contain coastal damage by exercising controlled burning out at sea. Due to high-wind and adverse weather conditions, much of the smoke is making its way to shore.
Residents of Hathian and adjacent parishes along the water are advised to stay away from the coast as water is contaminated and the air quality conditions are dangerously toxic.
