I think my dear readers, it’s been a little while since I did a month in review. I know, I know. “Daiyu, how will we manage our time if we don’t have you directing us to the juciy stuff!?” Sorry, sorry, sorry. But you did get a year in review, bigger is sometimes better.
So yes, the last month in review was in April 2025. I’m still more consistent than Maja. Anyway, so let me explain how it works.
I select my top three articles for January and give you a brief synopsis of them, along with the link to them so you can either read them if you missed them, OR can refresh yourself if you wish.
Anyway ‘Get on with it!’ Right? Well, the good news (hah) was that we had 30 articles in January, the Observer really spoiling you. Just to note that sometimes an event happens in January, but we don’t get to it until for example February. In this case you might just have to wait to see if our ‘favourites’ align.
This isn’t Zombieland
So yeah, many of you wrote in to me about this. Firstly we clarified that yes, really, the cop who shot the surrendering suspect had been in a threesome with the suspect previously and, according to Carlos’ wife, likely lost the plot when she wasn’t invited back again. Here’s where she got that nickname by the way (so kinda like a bonus article!). Unusually, we saw good work from the HPD both to investigate, but also at the time by the second officer present who had to try and bring this rogue junior under control.
Just thinking about my title though? Some of you like to come back many times. Maybe a double tap is required. Maybe Hathian is Zombieland? One to ponder right?
$5m Richer? No. But Maybe he Got Something?
When we caught up with the City we found that the settlement was definitely not anywhere near the $5m claimed. What it actually was (whether $1 or $10,000) wasn’t disclosed, presumably so that in the future a deluge of claims doesn’t overwhelm our already fragile system.
Wilbur, a ‘lovable’ fixture in Hathian always pops up when you least expect him, but not where you least expect. In trouble and possibly in the trash rooting around for your stuff.
The Scooby Gang Make Their Appearance
Well, it didn’t take long for the New Year to have some weird vibes and these were when the Mystery Machine ended up involved in a robbery at the Flamin’ Cajun restaurant. Our reporter there got her ass slapped and the restaurant was robbed. Still, no shots were fired and at least in this case we can note that there were no major injuries other than pride. They even struck again in February. so appear to be here for a while. I will however use my editorial privilege to say that while their getaway disguises were good and even their costume attempts went well, that we’ve done better (the costume part, not the crime).

That concludes the news round-up for January! As always, catch a reporter from the Observer (or we visit as required) to give us your stories, tips or other information! You can find our profiles here. They’re a little out of date, again. But I’ll get to it soon!
Please see this link as well for a chance to join the Observer, get some coaching from me (I make a mean coffee) and perhaps start your journalism career, or even more!
((Promotion of the Observer and CD happens off-sim as well, so if you can help out feel free to link to your other SL friends. Spread the word, the active stories and see if we can’t generate new role-players or encourage others to return!))
