The Observer is not in the habit to award prizes often and in particular with the sometimes chequered history of the Hathian Police Department (‘HPD’) it is not always clear that prizes are an appropriate tool to encourage more of the ‘right‘ thing and less of the wrong.

Never-the-less, after being made aware of extensive rationale we are delighted to cover our planned award for Officer Phillip Aubin.

Officer Aubin, pictured in our header struggling against the Yuugen holds an unusual relationship to the Observer as his wife, ten years ago was our former editor, Valena Aubin (neé Dowe). Back then, Aubin was working in the FDH but since then has moved to the HPD and, by all accounts, has performed his role admirably, taking on some of the City’s ‘Big Bads’.

We’ll cover a few of these below, but we are also aware of a few incidents that some have previously flagged and this then turns to our other request. In order for our nomination to turn into the actual reward that Aubin deserves, we at the Observer require your testimonials and comments about the officer. Assuming we amass enough Citizen evidence, then we will surely award Aubin $10k to help him with manage, as everyone knows those who are ‘good’ in HPD don’t exactly get ‘fat cheques’ in their payroll.

Aubin’s Moments

Captured by the fearsome gang known as the Yuugen, Aubin endured significant stress and trials, including riding an alligator. With the gang known to torture people for sick games that they believe has ‘purpose’ it was impressive that Aubin managed to escape while preserving his resilience and morals.

As well as this headline incident, we have also been presented with evidence of how:

  • Aubin saved many students from a burning house when he worked in the FDH
  • Aubin helped to ensure the arrest and suitable punishment of many of the gang members in the city, including extensive work against the Rejects
  • He was known to work during the storms that plague this town to provide shelter to vulnerable residents
  • He has been recognised by his peers for his moral compass and dedication to the HPD who are like a family to him
  • His focus on solving murders has been much commented on, including in this paper.

Help the Observer to Give Aubin What he Deserves

As discussed, to make this award rounded and to ensure (on the small risk) there is negative news we are not aware of, the Observer is offering $20 for photos or comments about Aubin (up to a cap) and if you have some additional history that you think should be shared, then we can award larger amounts based on the detail. We’re in particular interested for first hand accounts related to:

  • Any witnesses to the alleged incident where two gang members were allowed to fight each other under Aubin’s watchful gaze
  • Any other witnesses to the alleged HGH attack that led to a strike being called
  • And any other information that would help make this a beautiful, rounded award

Contact the Observer Editor, Daiyu Tang with your details and receive your $ incentive for helping us make Hathian a better place, one person at a time.
