A serving female police officer and a gunman were both wounded in shootout by the Hathian police station earlier this week. Two women involved in the altercation fled from the scene. However both are known to the police and were identified by a second police officer, identified as Lieutenant Blackheart, who was at the scene.
The two wounded were both taken away to the Hathian General Hospital (‘HGH’) in ambulances. The Hathian Police Department (‘HPD’) have as yet, not identified any of those involved. However, Lt Blackheart was overheard identifying one of the women who fled as Noah Birdie and the other as a doctor from HGH, while the gunman addressed the wounded officer as a ‘Officer Burton’.
There is some dispute as to how the altercation began, with the wounded police officer and the gunman telling Lt. Blackheart different stories. However there is agreement that, at some point, the gunman arrived as officer Burton and Ms Birdie were fighting and he shot, and wounded, the cop in the shoulder. The gunman was then shot and wounded in the leg.
Lt Blackheart, the only person at that point holding a gun, took command of the situation. However, she seems to have already been injured in the leg and was seen to be limping badly. This meant that she was unable to chase the two women who then fled the scene.
Officer Burton claimed that the incident had begun when Ms. Birdie had come up to her and tried to punch her, apparently without a motive. The gunman had then turned up and pulled a gun, so she had returned fire.
The gunman kept insisting that he had shot the officer, that it was his fault she “got shot” (his words) and not Ms. Birdie, who was completely innocent of the shooting. He also claimed that, although he had been carrying a gun, he had not been intending to draw it until, he claimed, he had seen the officer choking Ms Birdie. Even the, he was not intending to shoot. The gun, he said, had gone off as a result of him being shot by Officer Burton.
The Observer has asked the Hathian Police Department for a statement.
HPD Statement
Lt. Vanora Blackheart responded to gunfire outside the police department as she exited the locker room. Upon arrival, she observed a male suspect, identified as Carl, actively shooting at Officer Burton, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Preliminary investigation reveals Officer Burton was attempting to arrest Noah Birdie, a known Reject affiliate, when Carl — an individual with no apparent ties to organized crime — brandished a firearm. Anja, a doctor linked to HGH, also intervened. A shootout ensued, during which Officer Burton was shot twice and returned fire, wounding Carl. Anja managed to free Noah from Officer Burton’s hold, and both women fled the scene.
Lt. Blackheart called for backup, successfully disarmed, and restrained Carl. Medical teams arrived to provide aid to Officer Burton. An APB has been issued for Anja and Noah Birdie on charges including assaulting a police officer, attempted first-degree murder, obstruction, and resisting arrest.
Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
Hathian Police Department commends the actions and bravery of Ofc. Burton and Det. Lt. Blackheart.
