Readers, I returned from my summer vacation in time to witness Blanche’s arrival. I hope you all stayed safe and that damages to your properties and livelihood has been minimal. While preparing for the hurricane and having had to stay at HGH to shelter, I could not but be inspired by the dedication and tireless work all essential workers have provided for us. If you wish to have detailed overview over what happened, you may check the live feed.

Private Contractors and Labour Union

I had the pleasure of meeting Boris Armstrong (featured in the picture above), a handyman who runs his own construction business with the unironic slogan “There ain’t a hole I can’t fill!”. I have met him while staying HGH and spoke to him about his work ensuring various infrastructure could continue to function during the hurricane.

“It’s just me and my helper for now, but with the way things are going, I’m hoping to expand soon. People need skilled hands, especially in a town like this where hurricanes can hit hard. So far, folks have been pretty cooperative. Most just want to make sure their homes and businesses are secure, and I’m more… than happy to help with that. I’ll give it to ‘em—workers, nurses, cops—they’re all busting their asses tryin’ to keep this charming little town from sinking into the ground or goin’ down like the damn Titanic.”

I was sadly unable to meet and interview someone from the Labour Union, which have done a great job helping with the preparation and ensuring there were supplies – even as late as- the evening before the hurricane hit. This is a shout for their efforts, if you are not already a member but would like to please reach out to Chaz X.

HGH Nurses and General Staff

This year we thankfully have an operational hospital during the hurricane, the nurses and general staff worked endlessly to ensure that everyone whether needing medical assistance or simply waiting out the storm had a cot, supplies, and was given direction in times of confusion. Even when things got a bit tense.

“Blanche was my first experience of a hurricane, I moved to Louisiana a couple years ago but was lucky enough to avoid them until I arrived in Hathian. I was glad to be able to work while HGH provided shelter for those who needed it, and found the community spirit and camaraderie quite heartwarming. Of course there were those who chose to cause trouble, not to mention displaced gators causing havoc, but it was rewarding to be part of a group of people who pulled together for the common good. As for preparedness, HGH was well stocked with food, although supply issues caused issues with some medication, unfortunately out of our control, but we made it through and were glad to be able to provide a safe shelter for the citizens of Hathian throughout the crisis.”

FDH First Responders

Because it is Hathian, there was a fare share of incidents such as the truck accident on Bourbon streets and gangs looting supplies and places (including the Observer), therefore, it is great that we can rely on the emergency services of FDH who were on duty around the clock.

“As Hurricane Blanche approached Hathian, the Fire Department of Hathian was fully prepared. All FDH personnel were assigned to active duty and we had ample supplies to handle the increased workload. We also deployed an additional off-road ambulance, A-3, to ensure swift response to emergencies. I am immensely grateful for my team’s tireless efforts, particularly in extinguishing a vehicle fire amidst high winds and an ongoing conflict between criminals and HPD on Bourbon Street. Two of our men were held at gunpoint during an attempted ambulance jacking but fortunately both were unharmed and the attempt was unsuccessful. It takes immense bravery and selflessness to work as a first responder during a hurricane, but it’s our duty, and I am proud of the men and women who represent FDH.”

Trevor Pentewyn, FDH Chief.

These are put a few essential workers who did tremendous work during the week, to everyone else, a big thank you from all of us. Please continue to support our essential workers, when there is a possibility to donate, volunteer, or join their ranks if it is of interest.

I’m supplying Boris Armstrong’s phone number in case you need repairs after the hurricane +1089487376.
