The Laveau Sheriff Department had informed the Observer that Detective Nikki Derryth who we have met a number of times before had been promoted. With the good relations with have with her office we travelled the long journey down to Laveau to meet her and find out a bit more about her promotion.

Unfortunately it appeared we arrived soon after a large scale attack on the office of the Sheriff. Burnt out patrol cars and even a swamp boat stood testament to the attack which, after speaking to the detective came soon after the beating up of one of her deputies who we saw on crutches during the interview.

Wanting to both congratulate Derryth and find out more we posed a few questions to her.

Under Attack

Ushered quickly into the high office that formed the LSD ‘base’ I was immediately aware of Derryth’s concerns.

Daiyu: “Tactical police woman today? Worried about something?”

Derryth: “Two nights ago, the station was attacked. It was a sustained assault. We lost two patrol vehicles and a bayou patrol boat. It was well planned, if not sophisticated. They put over three hundred rounds of ammunition out…”

Daiyu: “You ok, everyone ok? Sounds like the seedier side of Laveau got out their teeth… those cultists maybe, or others…”

Derryth: “The day before we were attacked at the office her, Deputy Cohen was gunned down in the street. We know who by, we know where they are and we will deal with them soon. These two attacks back to back mean that this office is going to now authorize lethal response use as a first option. Enough is enough. None of our deputies on duty were injured during the attack on the station but there was extensive damage. Nothing we can’t patch up though.”

Official Statement

“Regarding the attacks against Laveau Sheriffs Department and it’s personnel. We have a right to uphold the law and do our jobs safely, just as anyone else does. It is in the public interest to comply with our officers as they conduct routine or serious crime investigations. I deplore the attack against out office and Deputy Cohen. This town has been turned into a war zone by hostile elements of the population. We will be reconsidering our position on how we police criminals in the future and adjusting our stance on the approach to policing in Laveau on the whole”

At this point we were joined by Deputy Cohen, who on crutches looked a bit the worse for wear. She said:

“This attack on the station impacts the community as a whole. Until we get a new fleet of cruisers, our deputies are forced to do foor patrols and responses, which impact how quickly we can react to calls. Our bayou patrol boat was heavily damaged so we can no longer patrol the coastline to prevent smuggling and I am sure some of our green deputies would need mental health days just to get them back in uniform. This attack is against the very fabric of a civilized society”

A Promotion

As well as the update on the attack and the proposed change to LSD policies, the Detective also briefly confirmed her promotion.

Derryth: “As for my promotion? Promoted to Senior Deputy. With my detective rank, it means I’m the most senior ranking officer in the station. I was putting in the hours, getting the results that nobody else was and trying to guide the staff. It seems logical to be promoted in that case, yes?”

Daiyu: “Oh of course, well done then! I hope you can manage and organise everyone to fight against the tide here…”

Derryth: “We are happy to work with the community and businesses of Laveau but there are no more soft options when dealing with us. Not anymore. I have seen too many of the officers here hurt, disappeared of straight out killed. It stops. We are always looking for new people that want to make a difference and want to help as well”

If you want to help the LSD, do reach out to the Detective! After meeting the old senior deputy, I am sure that Nikki can do an even better job!

((Congratulations Nikki!))
