Editorial Board

The Hathian Observer has a long and interesting history and for over a decade has been part of the fabric of the City, our brave reporters covering events, crime, the Hathian Police force and matters relating to local and even state affairs. As we approach our 15th birthday in September 2023 we are on a recruitment drive; read on!

Starting in September 2008 our illustrious founder Geoffrey Welders setup the Observer and one of our first stories was around the murder of a resident near Lou’s bar. This is what the Observer strives to bring you; the breaking news, the ‘must know’ facts and the gossip, profiles and business reviews of our City. Since 2008 we have tracked news related to some of the big names in Hathian so that you can keep an eye on what they’re doing and keep yourself safe, or stay your distance.

We’ve published over two thousand, four hundred and seventy articles with an average of over 170 a year; you can be part of this! Some of our website articles receive thousands of views, with our most popular getting over 6,500 unique visits while the print edition is distributed around the city and reaches everyone.

Our reporters, people who might be just like you are driven to get out there and make Hathian a better place through the power of journalism.

Since September 2008, we’ve made a difference across the City and you will find it rewarding, with networking, privileged access to information and fair wages, as well as being part of a great investigative team.

We are looking for citizens of Hathian to come and join us. You can be based in the University at our CU Paper branch ably staff by dedicated students, including Buffy ((sabrina.morningstar – the CU Community lead)) or you might wish to join us in Hathian proper where you can receive training and on-the-job supervision from Daiyu Tang ((faithtang.resident)) or John ((DarkStalker Darkfold)) among others.

No experience is required, full training will be given including:

  • How to use the Observer website ((WordPress))
  • Support with your passes ((Website registration and IC passes))
  • Guidance on how we work ((Rules, for example metagaming and use of medical/police records))
  • Photography ((How to load photos to the Observer, or use Light Room, or other editing topics))
  • Help with your stories ((Proof Reading / Editing))
  • Introductions! ((IC stories to help you get going if you want))

If joining the fight to keep the free press running in Hathian interests you, visit the Observer office today and sign-up and then reach out to our staff mentioned above.

“I’ve made a difference as a journalist, getting exclusives, helping out where I can. It’s really rewarding emotionally and morally to see how what we write can change how citizens think about a topic. I love writing business reviews, but I get to do everything here, which is great for my CV!”

The Board disclaim any liability for this and ask prospective staff to cast their eyes over their personal insurance as the Observer will not be liable unless proven in court for medical costs related to covering stories.

((It would be wonderful to welcome more writers to the team as we look to keep around 2 stories a week. or more flowing, presently there are not enough active journalists to sustain))
