Hathian Louisiana – The Hathian Police Department (HPD) Internal Affairs division is aware of serious allegations regarding racism within our department. We take these concerns very seriously and are committed to fostering a culture of inclusivity, respect, and accountability.
The HPD prioritizes Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) training for all officers. While we strive to ensure our officers are equipped to handle the challenges of their roles, we recognize that the pressures of the job can affect individuals differently. We are continually working to support our personnel as they serve our community.
On October 15, an incident involving Nilay Badem raised further concerns. Officers Grey and Captain Heckler observed Ms. Badem loitering and issued warnings. Later, during a patrol, Officer Grey encountered Ms. Badem again, during which she exhibited alarming behavior that appeared to be influenced by substances. Despite Officer Grey’s efforts to offer assistance and ensure her safety, Ms. Badem’s associates escalated the situation, resulting in an attack on the officer.
We commend Officer Grey for his courage and professionalism. He is a veteran with years of military service, dedicated to protecting our community. His actions reflect the commitment of HPD to uphold public safety, even in challenging circumstances.
It is important to note that Louisiana law currently prohibits head coverings in DMV photographs. We encourage individuals who oppose this regulation to voice their concerns with their local representatives.
The HPD is dedicated to transparent communication with the community and will continue to address all allegations seriously. We encourage any member of the public with concerns or information to reach out to our Internal Affairs division.
