The great and the good of Columtreal descended onto the playing fields to pitch their stalls and hear from the campus employers what useful contributions to society they could make while studying. From drama club, to restaurants to different teams like the swim team or the cheerleaders. There were also the sorority and fraternity houses present all adding up to a fairly carnival atmosphere that not even the Dean and the CUPD department could rain on with their depressingly needed talk on campus safety.
Ball Busters Busted on Phones
Looking a little distracted, but for sure the best CU colours, the Ballbuster team under Captain Maya manned a prime position in the fair, looking for students who wanted to get onto court and make a difference to the amazing CU team. We’ve featured their winning ways HERE and in that link you can also read about their other matches.
We’re not quite sure what Maya and her team mate were distracted with, but with the rage of Rachel on their team as well as other great players any students looking to really get good at the sport would be well encouraged to sign-up. Maya’s interview in which she talked about her motivations to join the team is a really good starting point.
Restaurants, the Campus Clinic & More
With students milling around, I was able to snap a few photos of different stalls. I in particular was pleased to see my colleague Viv, advertising her class, which is well worth attending! Students at Columtreal should make sure they are aware of class timetables, which can be found HERE to ensure they don’t miss lessons. Obviously I recommend Journalism… but there are other great electives!
Campus Safety & Speech
The CU President was introduced on stage and gave a short speech. I know he can do better, but it sounded like he wasn’t fully prepared!
Dean Coletti: “Hello everyone! I’m so glad to see all of you here today! It’s been a great start to the year already, and we’re looking forward to a lot of awesome events coming up this month! I’m sure you’ve all seen the calendar online, which is full of classes and things that you can get involved in. From psychology to history to health and nutrition, we at CU are dedicated to bringing you the best education we possibly can, with skilled and talented teachers! Some of whom are here today, Let’s give them a hand of applause!”
There was a polite scattering of applause. Students are a fickle bunch… The dean took this in his stride and continued.
Dean Coletti: “As many of you know, we have been cracking down on some things here on campus. The captain and the lieutenant beside me are working tirelessly to keep you safe as you go to and from classes, swim team, football practice, and cheer squad. They are looking for officers as well, so if you’re interested in following that particular career path, please talk to them today! I want to ensure all of you that the CUPD and I are working closely together to make sure that issues are dealt with and handled quickly and professionally. You’ve all seen our collaborative work already, I’m sure. All we ask for is respect for one another, whether it be teachers or fellow students. So if you have any questions about the things I mentioned, please head on over to those at the tables! We’ve got lots of places for you to work part time as well, to help pay for that annoying tuition! And with that, I’ll hand it back over to Alani and Cyrus, our CUPD reps.”
The CUPD Captain Alani (pictured below from an earlier event) along with her what appeared to be deputy Cyrus took the stage and followed up Dean Coletti’s focus on campus safety, a topic that this newspaper has banged the drum about repeatedly.
Captain Alani: “Thank you, President Coletti, to continue with what has been said, we, at Columtreal University Police Department, wanted to provide you all with an update on the recent attacks. All suspects have been identified, arrested and charged in their crimes. We will be enforcing a Zero Tolerance procedure for such – for both students and faculty. Additionally, I would like to announce the start of the Columtreal Public Safety Academy. Students and citizens will have the opportunity to train to become an elite officer through various trainings and classes. Become a solution, become an officer of Columtreal University Police Department.”
I mean it’s good to hear from the Observer’s perspective that recent campus attackers had been arrested, but we will have to make further inquiry to Alani… CU has seen a share of murders, fires, and all sorts. There were even serial killers masquerading as cheerleaders at one point. Hopefully her new ‘Public Safety Academy’ students will be primed to deal with all of that!
So What Will You Be?
Students come in all shapes, sizes, ethnicities, nationalities and orientations. Columtreal has (for the most part) been a good place for me as a student, even as a poorly paid intern at the Observer, and I’ve enjoyed covering class when I could. So, like the two young people photographed here, ready to start their academic journey with CU, what will you be?
What you probably can’t be is a doggo. But at CU, you can pet the dog and that, as everyone knows is a sign that the place is good. Maybe I will see you around on campus and be sure to check out the Museum, Galleries and Cinema that are just nearby, ready for all students to have fun with… my employers there would love to see you!
