Hey, sugar lovers! If you missed the monster-themed cake contest at Rusty Browns Donuts yesterday, let me tell you—you missed out on the ultimate sugar showdown! I’m Tiffani Blake, your cheeky, bubbly reporter (and proud participant!) here to spill the tea on all the delicious details.
Our lovely hostess with the mostest (moistest? – Ed), Eliany Vazquez, who, by the way, is a total boss babe at just 20 years old—opened the doors to Laveau’s finest bakers for a cake contest that was as wild as it was sweet. Eliany runs Rusty Browns Donuts like a pro while balancing her computer science studies at Columtreal University. Can you say #goals?
The contest theme? Monsters! And trust me, the cakes were to die for—literally, in some cases!
Now, I may have thrown my hat (or should I say, my apron?) into the ring with a little creation called the Fashionista Frankenstein cake. Picture this: a runway-ready Frankenstein, all stitched up with couture clothing, bold makeup, and even rocking a sculpted fondant handbag! The flavours? A chic blend of matcha and white chocolate, because why not be sweet and sophisticated at the same time? Not to toot my own horn, but I might’ve heard a few whispers that it was quite the showstopper. And hey, when Agares jokes that it’s a Frankenstein he’d, well, get cosy with—you know you’ve done something right! (Wink, wink!)
But let’s talk about the other big player in the room—Detective Nikki’s chaotic creation. After pulling a gruelling 16-hour shift keeping Laveau safe, and maybe a little wine-fuelled kitchen mishap, Detective Nikki whipped up a cake that was more monster mash than masterpiece. This thing was practically swimming in rum, chocolate, and raspberry—oozing all over the place in the best possible way. It wasn’t pretty, but let me tell you, it fit the monster theme like a glove! Eliany, our fearless judge, was hesitant at first but quickly got hooked on the boozy goodness. Rumor has it she might’ve been a little too into that cake, if you catch my drift!

Despite the long hours she puts in protecting our community, Nikki showed that she’s got the spirit to jump into local fun, even when it means juggling her duties with a little cake creativity. It’s that dedication and hard work that makes her such a valued member of Laveau, and we couldn’t be more grateful.
As the cakes were sliced and sampled, Ai-Li, the deputy with a sweet tooth, was all about the donuts (also baked by yours truly). She was like a kid in a candy store—literally! But even she couldn’t resist the pull of the monster cakes, eyeing them with delight before sadly having to head off to her shift. We’ll miss you, Ai-Li! Come back for more sweets anytime!
The crowd was as colourful as the cakes, with some familiar faces from around Laveau—Dr. Yaden Toran, always the voice of reason, kept things grounded, even as the cakes got wilder. Agares was his usual cheeky self, and Don, the ever-watchful bodyguard, kept a close eye on things, probably wondering if any of these sweet creations would turn into actual monsters!
But what really made this event special was the way our community came together—once again—to celebrate local pride. From bakers to taste-testers, everyone showed up with enthusiasm and heart, proving that Laveau is more than just a town—it’s a family. Whether it was laughing over a cake disaster or sharing bites of the most creative sweets you’ve ever seen, the day was a reminder of what makes Laveau such a unique and wonderful place to live.
In the end, while I might have walked away with a little extra something for my Fashionista Frankenstein cake, the real winner was the spirit of Laveau—creative, a little chaotic, and oh-so-sweet. But if you ask me? Nikki’s cake took the crown for the best monster-themed treat. It was messy, boozy, and just a little bit terrifying—exactly what a monster cake should be!
Until next time, stay sweet, Laveau!
