Game Week Update: CU vs. Christian Brothers

The Observers’ Columtreal coverage continues with the Ball Busters where the next stop of the team’s season after a victory in their previous match was Memphis, Tennessee. The team is doing very well and in the view of this college sport fan, they now have a great shot at first place.

Match Report

As the season powers towards the trophies there are few matches left for the CU team to continue their winning ways and hopefully make the whole of Columtreal proud. But before they can do this, the next stop for the Ballbusters was at the Christian Brothers’ College in Memphis, Tennessee. The CU Squad arrived well prepared and while the Bucs are contending for the 6th and 7th spot in the league, the difference in the game play against the league’s current leading team was evident. A well tuned comprehensive and oiled team effort from the Columtreal squad brought victory with a clear class difference within a mere 3 sets. It was a dominant result of 25 – 19, 25 – 18 and 25 – 13.

This win sets the season up for the actually most important Columtreal game against the 2nd place West Florida Argonauts. While the Columtreal team is leading from first place with 9 victories and 2 losses, the second team of the season is essentially in the same position with 8 victories and 2 losses. Since the next match of the Columtreal squad is the last in the season while they hold one game advantage, the West Florida chargers will have two more games to keep in the competition for the 1st place.

This in essence means that if the Columtreal squad wins the game in two weeks, they will be without dispute be the top team in the season. However, if the Ballbusters fail to deliver and end up with a loss against the Argonauts, they will have to wait for the next 14 days to see if Auburn Montgomery Warhawks manage to win against the stronger Florida team to tie West Florida against Columtreal and bring in the title rematch for the 1st place.

Without a doubt, fans could not wish for a better end of the season, proving that the division teams are very evenly matched, keeping the season not yet decided until literally the very last game. It’s not over until it’s over!

Will the upstart Ballbusters prevail and score their season victory? Or will they fall to the pressure and fail to claim the title in a last gasp moment from their competitors? We will find out in two weeks in Pensacola, West Florida; the home court of West Florida Argonauts!
