This press release was given to the Observer by the HGH Management Team and is carried in full and unedited. Our thoughts are appended at the bottom, including some context on recent (and less recent) incidents that have provoked or may have caused some of the enmity between HGH and HPD.
22nd October 2024
As many of you may be aware, Hathian General Hospital has gone through multiple trials and tribulations over the last several weeks which has impacted our ability to provide the best level of care that we can. What many of you may not know, however, is the fact that the Hathian Police Department is to thank for these issues.
Just over two weeks ago, HGH fell victim to both arson and a robbery. These actions depleted not only our most basic medical supplies, but also left us with no drugs, no painkillers, and short several pieces of much needed medical equipment. Upon review of our CCTV, we were able to identify several individuals who took part in the heist, and very willingly turned over the fire report, CCTV footage, as well as an inventory of missing items to HPD. In the nearly two and a half weeks since the robbery, we have not heard a single word from HPD regarding the investigation, nor have any arrests been made, despite the perpetrators faces being clearly visible. As a result of HPD’s lack of action and subsequent lack of recovery of the stolen goods, the citizens of Hathian have been forced to endure pain that they should not have to.
While that alone is cause for concern, HPD further progressed their Anti-HGH agenda when Lieutenant Lizette Calhern attacked our Chief of Staff, Simon LeMarchand, in the HGH lobby several nights ago. Despite what HPD’s mouthpiece, Atsuko Nakayama-Monsen has stated, Lizette’s attack was not physically provoked, something that has been corroborated by both witnesses as well as CCTV recordings. Several of her officers, emboldened by seeing her act in such a reckless manner, then proceeded to attack and arrest a large portion of our staff. Of the staff members that were attacked, two were pregnant at the time, and one additional staff member was so badly beaten that she required brain surgery after being brutally attacked by Philip Aubin. This display of brutality and force, and the subsequent arrest of many of HGH’s core staff, has made it even more difficult to operate, leaving us running on bare minimum staffing, piecing together coverage as best we can.

Separately, these incidents are just two different examples of the heavy handed methods and complete lack of regard that the HPD has for anybody other than themselves. However, with these two attacks occurring back to back, it reveals a much more sinister agenda. It is clear, after a prolonged period of hostility from HPD towards HGH and it’s staff, that they are now actively taking action to purposely incapacitate and sabotage HGH’s ability to provide care to our citizens who desperately need it. Their lack of action in recovering the medications that our patients badly need, and then subsequent attack on our staff, sends a clear message:
They don’t care who suffers, even if it’s the entire city, as long as their vendettas are carried out in order to force people to bend to their whims.
As a result of these actions, effective immediately, HGH is on strike. While this decision has not been easy to make and it pains us to do so, this is a direct result of the actions of HPD which have rendered us unable to provide the level of service that we are committed to. Due to a lack of supplies, all surgical cases will be rerouted to New Orleans, and we ask that all minor cases please seek assistance at either the Columtreal or Laveau clinics. A small skeleton crew will be available for critical, non surgical cases in the event of an absolute emergency.
With that being said, the management team at HGH is open to discussion with HPD on how to remedy this situation. The first step is to issue an immediate retraction of their latest press release that deliberately skews the facts, and also a public apology to, not only the injured HGH staff, but all of the citizens of Hathian that have suffered due to the issues that have been caused by their actions against HGH.
We stand with you, Hathian, and will fight to ensure that you are given the level of care that you deserve.

The Observer’s Perspective
By: Daiyu Tang

Over the last week there has been a flurry of activity between the Hathian Police Department, civilians and more recently the staff of the Hathian General Hospital. It should also be noted that in the past there were also well known incidents of FDH staff and HPD staff in serious conflict, including at one point the dismissal of the previous FDH head for running over a Police Officer.
These conflicts between emergency services… serve no one well. Suspicion and rivalry weakens those groups like HGH that are there for everyone and without medical coverage, officers are less likely to take on any form of civic duty (and yes there are some who do that). In the end, such difficulty leads to HPD in a bunker mentality and HGH left at their mercy, being possibly arrested on any whim. It’s a situation that won’t end well.
I like to think that the Observer maintains a relatively ‘neutral’ stance, taking each person, each story and each event as it comes. But there is a fact pattern and we know what it is. We know that HGH will patch you up and keep you mostly safe, as will the FDH. Many do not have the same view of the HPD and while this can be spun or positioned in different ways, it is the view of the Observer that fighting in HGH because someone thinks ice-cream might be poisoned is outrageous. There are other techniques, deescalation and so forth.
I remember Captain Heckler in his hospital (private) room. The thought that a batch of bad ice-cream was designed to ‘take him out’ is laughable. That man would need a bazooka to the head…
As usual, the Twitter world is aflame. Citizens and more screaming at HPD, HPD defending themselves and often using what appear to be facts to do so. The very recent interview with Lt. Calhern a case in point.
All we can do at the Observer is trust that this strike action will be resolved in peace and that where required adjustments will be made by HPD, including apologies if needed. But that seems for now, a long shot.

Finally, lest it be said that everything is one-sided, I am aware of ‘Doctors’ employed in HGH who attack and have attacked patients. Let it be on record that we are not, in the Observer, blind to that and will be investigating further.
If any civilians want to report issues with care during this strike, please reach out to a journalist and we’ll do our best to highlight your case and find you alternative treatment options.
