The Observer was approached on the 15th October by a concerned individual who wanted to report what they claimed was a racist attack by Police Officers against a member of the minority community in Hathian.

Alleged Witness: “Picture this… black SUV full oh’ coked up cunt cops, they spoke to some Turkish lass minding her own business walking over the bridge. They pull up next to her and try to get her to strip an dance naked for them while using all the colourful language under the sun, ‘whore’, ‘terrorist’ an the like…
Then one of the coked up picks decides to have a bit more sport; chases her down like to the corner and I see this cop provoking her like, throwing insults at her, her family until he gets the reaction he wants when she finally loses her cool from his racist bullshit and then he attempts to arrest her, after smashing the living shit out her face breaking her nose an teeth!”
The tip-off came to us from a source we have not had experience with before, but her details led us to another involved party who confirmed more parts of the story.
Alleged Witness: “Turns out only last night the po po ‘av now arrested the husband on bullshit terrorism charges…”
The Observer will try and confirm stories with participants where it can so we dispatched our editor, Daiyu to visit HPD where after some discussion with Porkins and a nice officer who appeared from the jails, Mustafa the man who was apparently a ‘terrorist’ was brought up for a quick visit behind glass.
Meeting Mustafa
After handing in my cameras and other stuff I was pleasantly surprised to have Mustafa brought up without immediate physical signs of distress. Hopefully HPD’s Krystal O’Neil, fresh from her recent ‘court’ appearance meant what she said that she has and tries to ensure everyone gets due process. I wanted to find out what happened to Mustafa so interviewed him quickly, mindful of a time limit with visitation.
DT: “I’m Daiyu Tang, I work for the newspaper and I met someone who told me about you being here. Are you Mustafa? The husband who is here so that his wife isn’t?”
MB: “Yes, I am Mustafa Badem, my wife is Nilay Badem. I am here because the police are harassing my wife, and now me because we are Turkish, and choose to antagonize us with stalking, harassment, race baiting, and violence.”
DT: “I am very sorry to hear that. I met a friend of your wife who asked me to assist and I’d add that racism is stupid here… half the cops are Latino, black, Asian or Irish… There’s a few from the middle east as well… So this friend said that some cops tried to get your wife to take her shyla off, and then also abused her with racist language. Used a terrorist trope on her just because she wants to wear what she feels comfortable in? Then they chased her and insulted her more before beating on her? I understand they then came after you instead of her…”
MB: “From the way I understand it there was three of them that harassed her on the bridge, later one of them found her, and demanded she give him cocaine on a regular basis for free. My wife does not do drugs, nor does she work in the business of narcotics. So when she told him this he got angry. She told him to leave her alone, and he punched her the face and broke her nose… My wife and I came here to the station and filed a complaint against Officer Jon Gray and later the same officer and another officer in plain clothes approached me. They harassed me, the Officer Gray calling me a terrorist, and an animal fucker. I did not rise to those jabs, but then he called my wife a whore. I struck him twice with my elbow, and knee, once each… They charged me with assault on an officer, defacing the city sidewalk for putting out my cigar, resisting arrest which I complied with the arrest after I struck the officer, and filing a false report which I did not! This Officer Gray broke the law when provoking me, disorderly conduct. While vulgarities and such are normally protected by the constitution he was using provoking language meant to incite violence from myself which the law does not protect… Which removes his qualified immunity… Regardless this Department does not seem to care…”
DT: “You seem to know more law than I do! May I remove my bias and instead ask, what it is you do for a living, how should Hathian see you besides a victim of alleged violence?”
As Editor I was pleased in a way to have my own unconscious bias revealed. I had assumed that as an immigrant that Mustafa would be a particular way, yet he clearly knew the law at least as well as me and probably much more. Everyone can have a bias, I just wish that they were open to them instead of perpetuating them like the alleged racists here.
MB: “I am a veteran of the Turkish Special Forces Command, I fought alongside Americans in their war on Terror in the Middle East, and after that I worked with contacts I made as security for cargo transports. Taking the money I made during that time I moved my wife and I here to the US and I am in the process of buying a store right here in Hathian. I am a businessman, and I am simply trying to live the American Dream so to say… When I was preparing to come here I studied up on the law, and constitution to become a citizen, though I went further than was necessary.”
DT: “I didn’t expect that and I’m sorry for assuming! Anyway, that’s the American Dream alright, move and start to build it up…”
MB: “I do not mind, Please bring to light the travesty that this Police Department is overlooking in one of their officers. I will tell you now that if I come out of this jail more injured than I came in it will be because of that officer, he threatened me with a dog said, he was going to bring it in to teach me a lesson, called me a camel jockey, and a dog fucker. He also bit my ear while I was cuffed and against a wall.”
This story strikes a chord. I’ve learned and grown in Hathian over the years and it’s fair to say that while I’ve seen plenty of people setup by the HPD or trying to setup the HPD, it’s rare that a new to town couple, with a unique background like this would immediately try and paint HPD in a bad light, in particular as they did try and file a complaint; ‘doing the proper thing’. Thus, while we did get a ‘no comment but it’s not true’ kinda position from HPD
Our city is a multi-cultural city, yet the plague of racism continues, whether as shown in this story or via citizens who can’t wait to throw hate onto one cultural, ethnic, sexual or other group. Below, Xena, Racist Princess is spotted on Twitter mouthing off against Asians…

The Observer would like to ask that all citizens do better. We’re stronger when we’re not all alike. Embrace diversity and get an uplift to your social and business life.
We reached out to the HPD who suggested the incident was fabricated (in terms of racial abuse) with the suggestion that Mustafa was guilty of assaulting an officer who had not crossed the line between questioning and provoking. With regards to the mentioned issue with Mustafa’s wife, HPD said as a general principal:
“We’re in America, and we do things here in American way – which means, if one is required to get rid of their niqab for DMW photo, it does not mean that there’s institutional racism involved”
Whether that applied (even a bit) to this situation is… questionable.
