Following the passing of hurricane Blanche, reports of damage have been pouring in across the State. One of the reports that have come in is the loss of a small regional flight bound for New Orleans.
Authorities have reported that the flight likely crossed the path of hurricane Blanche and was possibly knocked off course. The plane went down outside Madisonville, Louisiana and a debris field was reported across a wide area, with a post-crash fire.
While not required to carry a Black Box due to the nature of the aircraft and flight, there was never-the-less a cockpit voice recorded and various other details that allowed local authorities to determine that pilot error was the most likely cause of the crash. It appears that the pilots thought they could fly around the storm, but due to unexpected areas of high and low pressure they had a some form of control issue which led to a loss of control of the aircraft. The victims of the crash have not yet been identified.
While not an exact repeat of 2023’s courier plane crash (see HERE) the parallel of pilot hubris and underestimating the storm impacts seem to be at play.
For any further information about the victims of the crash, family should contact New Orleans PD, The FAA and the local coroner’s office in New Orleans.
