Readers, apologies for being quiet for a few days over at the Observer. We lost power and then our office servers got flooded and despite backups elsewhere, the restore process has taken longer than expected due to staff shortages and malicious individuals interfering with the paper as usual.

Current Storm Reporting

Our journalists have been out in this filthy weather undertaking to try and bring you stories. We’ve heard good things from the LL Warehouses which we’ll report on tomorrow but we’ve also been part of some attempts by the FDH and HPD to ensure residents are safe and provisoned.

FDH and HPD Gets Bit While On a Supply Run

The Observer accompanied FDH Chief Dale Warrhol as well as other FDH colleagues Jari and Riki as they went with HPD Lt. Fyre, Corporal Nakama and officer Alani on a supply run to the Backwaters to attempt to collect aid to bring back to Hathian.

Driving in one of the less well known FDH vehicles, an already injured Chief Warrhol could be seen to be quite excited as he got the offroad toy out, although after the two hour journey he was perhaps not so peaky as the roads were truly atrocious.

Fyre took command to grab supplies, but before we could get much of them loaded he almost became supplies for a pack of vicious Alligators that were drawn to the noise being made. It as only through the help of FDH juniors, Corporal Nakama and Observer staff that Chief Warrhol didn’t become a ‘gator snack, but Landon’s leg wasn’t so lucky and it took the force of a shotgun blast to one of the gators to free the large man from potentially losing a limb.

Needless to say, discretion was the better part of valour and all, including your editor piled back into emergency services vehicles and left the gators to their world. Thanks must be given to the Chief and his staff who managed to put the sirens on which did seem to scare the remaining gators away.

FDH and HPD colleagues scatter as the Gator swarm attacks.
Fyre is chomped by a gator while leading the defence. (They might have been after Nakama’s large butt – Stanley)

What About The Power, Flooding, Rain And More?

Currently the majority of power is out in Hathian while repairs are undertaken. While the FDH and certain other key locations remain able to run on generators there has been no fuel shipments yet received into Hathian and with significant damage to the grid, the operator informs us that we don’t expect full power to be restored until Tuesday 12th of September, although some reconnection is expected on the Monday.

Flooding remains a significant issue, although the rain has substantially slackened presently. A number of roads are impassable and low lying areas remain flooded. Due to wind damage, there remains destruction and repair work required to many buildings within Hathian and in particular in the lower lying areas as well as communities around Hathian proper.

Our forecasters expect the storm to completely finish by Tuesday 12th of September alongside the restoration of power.

Utility workers are already out and about trying to get power restored

Hathian Throws A Party: Flashlights & Wet Weather Gear

On Saturday 9th September the Observer has heard there is to be a ‘flashlight’ party at the Plant in Hathian. This event, which is circulating on social media has been noted to run from 3pm to 6pm ((SLT)) and involves bringing a torch and your best ‘wet weather’ outfit for a party. The Plant is generally undamaged and although there is some flooding around the area, citizens may be able to get to the venue on foot.
The Observer intends to report from the event to see how Hathian parties in the dark, but as always we’d caution all citizens about safety including getting to (and from) the event as well as all the usual Hathian event risks.

There are of course many different interpretations of wet weather gear (and we’ve seen bikinis in this storm), so we’d suggest it’s pretty wide open to interpretation. The Observer is reasonable sure you can all do better than this attempt…
