Normally, when the Observer writes about the officers of the Hathian Police Department, the tone is far from complimentary. This account, however, speaks to quick thinking and personal courage. Actions that not only saved an officer’s life, but very likely prevented a far more serious incident.

As Officer Reed-Bellic explained, the evening began as a routine patrol. Having already passed through several blocks more than once, ensuring the area remained calm, the officer decided to briefly stop outside the bar near Twisters. The intention, she said, was simple: “Check on things on the databases, like active APBs just in case I had missed anything back at the station.”

While the officer was reviewing records inside her patrol car, a man approached and tapped on the driver’s side window, appearing to ask for a light. Officer Reed-Bellic lowered the window to assist and immediately found herself staring down the barrel of a drawn pistol.

“That’s when I see him draw his pistol and point it at me” she said.

An Impossible Situation

Faced with an impossible decision… Attempt to flee and risk being shot, or comply and deal with the matter using her skills later… She told me that she choose to unlock the vehicle as instructed. At the same time, she managed to activate the panic button on her radio, silently broadcasting the situation back to the station.

The armed man entered the front passenger seat, while three women climbed into the rear of the patrol car. Almost simultaneously, an unmarked vehicle driven by a plain-clothed officer, a personal acquaintance, arrived in the area, initially unaware that anything was wrong.

Through subtle signals and deliberately erratic driving, Asuka was able to alert the other officer to the situation. A careful, low-profile pursuit followed, with the unmarked car tailing the patrol vehicle to the destination the officer had been ordered to drive toward.

Once the trailing vehicle was noticed, the armed man demanded that Asuka either evade the pursuing officer or ram the car off the road. She refused, a decision that placed her own life at risk, but spared her fellow officer from harm.

Moments later, the gunman exited the vehicle. Officer Reed-Bellic seized the opportunity, removing the keys and diving clear of the patrol car. The three women left inside quickly discovered that while entering the back of a police vehicle is easy, exiting it is another matter entirely.

Additional units arrived shortly afterward. Following a brief standoff, all suspects surrendered without a single shot being fired.

What the group ultimately intended for the officer can only be speculated upon, but few doubt it would have ended well.

Meeting Officer Reed-Bellic in person she was. sitting quietly in the bar, dressed in a kimono, she was calm and composed; a striking contrast to the image of her in uniform earlier that night. It was a reminder that behind every badge is a person, and that even within institutions so often mired in controversy, there are moments of genuine bravery.

Perhaps it is too easy to forget that. Among the tangled thorns of the HPD, there are still roses?

The Editor adds: We also covered this HERE to some extent, although after identifying Caisen and some of his female helpers, we are yet to understand what they were hoping to achieve, but generally agree with Rose and Asuka’s interpretation; it was likely not good.
