In the chilling early hours of August 23rd, a nightmare unfolded on the grounds of Columtreal University that’s really rattled us all here and spotlighted the absolute necessity for beefing up our safety protocols, especially for the ladies among us. Our hearts are heavy for “Jane Doe”—a brave exchange student, who’s still pretty new to our streets—after she endured a horrific assault while simply trying to find her way on campus.
Jane was out looking for the admissions office, a bit lost, late at night. Enter Randy, a freshman at Columtreal, who at first seemed like just another student out late. He struck up a conversation with Jane near the iconic campus clock tower and suggested they head to a quieter spot—a party bus parked by the football field. But once isolated, Randy’s true, horrifying colors showed through.
Our sweet Jane was cornered and assaulted, her pleas dismissed as Randy committed an unspeakable act of violence against her. Later, shaking but incredibly courageous, Jane shared with me the raw and painful details of that night. “I still feel scared, like he’s still out there,” she whispered, her voice a fragile thread of fear and defiance. It’s a chilling reminder of the shadows lurking in what should be safe spaces.

We can’t let Jane’s ordeal be in vain. This is more than a wake-up call—it’s a siren screaming for change. We must clamp down on campus safety with everything we’ve got—more guards, better lighting, and crucially, education on consent and respect.
To all the women of Hathian: never doubt your gut. If something feels off, bail—being safe trumps being polite any day. And remember, if the unthinkable happens, it’s not on you. The blame falls squarely on the predator, period.
Jane’s bravery in speaking out isn’t just commendable—it’s an inspiration. We stand with you, Jane, and with every survivor who demands justice and change. The fight for a safer community continues, spurred on by the voices of those who refuse to be silenced. Let’s answer Jane’s call to action and strive for a future where no one has to fear walking alone.
(Editor’s Note: Until charged with a crime, Randy is innocent until proven guilty and the matters above are the opinions of Jane).
