Hi everyone, it’s your student Cheerleader and Mardi Gras hostess Kara Danvers reporting from the streets of Columtreal University!
Mardi Gras officially hit campus on February 17th with the Fat Tuesday celebrations, and wow, is it wild. Did you know Mardi Gras literally means, Fat Tuesday?
A Carnival Vibe
The vibe here is electric. Students are going all out with bright colors, fancy dress, and sometimes, well, not much clothing at all! Legend has it that young campus ladies use this night to discard their repressive undergarments in protest, or at least that’s how Senior student Keyate Marshall frames it, and hey, he’s a senior, so we have to listen!
Musical Geniuses!

The campus décor is always top-notch thanks to the CU Drama Department, and the music scene is legendary. We’ve seen CU artists rise to local fame before. They paved the way for the stars of tomorrow, and this year, it was time for the new generation to take the stage.
The show kicked off with Rocker Valor. He chose an aggressive set of songs that definitely set the mood, and his makeup was totally 70s Kiss style. He even led a protest against the Hathian Police Department, which is pretty poignant given that HPD patrols have been picking on campus again lately. Can the new officers win over the students?
Following Valor was the renowned club DJ Isabis. Her set was designed to up the BPM and the heart rate of the student body. Around this time, I noticed small groups of students indulging in some narcotics, but hey, it’s a party, right?
The night wrapped up with TashaV2, featuring DJ Isabis and Natasha Wilson. Natasha is a student street poet and rapper who has risen to prominence over the last year. Her songs cross into politics, civil rights, and race wars, and she was the one who led the female student body to cast off their tops and bras, all backed by Isabis’s hypnotic beats.

Fireworks and Goodbye to the Old?
The end of the night finished with bright fireworks above the Columtreal sky. Rumors are swirling that the University main building has recently been condemned, and the University is investing heavily in a new campus to attract more international students. So, it looks like this isn’t just the artists that will be new!
