As before, I got a gallery of party pics for everyone! The sun was out, the brews were abundant, the skating was sick, and of course, as advertised, there were occasional joints passed around.

Event Organizer Akuma Nishida

Much kudos to CU’s own Akuma Nishida, who organized the event. Yes, he’s a Delta, but we won’t hold that against him.

We had quite a crowd on hand, with good times had by all. I was DJane for the event, and gave some early concessions to the nü-metal fans in the crowd.

Once those songs were done, my setlist spanned 40+ years of rock, from the 80’s to today. It was all hard rock, indie, punk, a little Britpop and metal, and plenty of SKA! I even sprinkled in some vintage late 80’s/early 90’s rap-rock to remind us all of the potential that hybrid had before a certain bro in a backwards red baseball cap got ahold of it.

Your Rock DJane (I see you Mr. Williams. Sing, indeed, when you’re winning).

With apologies to those nü-metal fans, I confess to being rather snobbish towards the sub-genre; you all took the ribbing I gave you like the wonderfully good sports you are, even when I played Polka for Angry White Boys.

To come back around to it, ska does NOT get enough love, people. It’s tragic; I recommend we all listen to more. Take in a live show and thank me later. It’s energetic feelgood music in the best way. For reals, metal is fun, but we can’t be angry all the time. Can you tell I love me some ska? Punk with a horn section is just meant to be.

And of course, who could forget the skating? Who knew we had this kind of talent around campus? I sure didn’t.

Kara flying like her namesake. Strong legs + tiny frame = big, BIG air.
Akuma with a SICK flying grab.

As happens so often around here, there was ALMOST an altercation. One of the Rejects was around, and looked to start a fight. Big ups to Melo Reed for preventing a scrap and keeping the party on the fun side.

Also, best wishes to Akuma and his mom in Japan, who is severely ill right now. Kudos to him for getting this event going before he heads back to Japan for a while to be with her through some tough times. Sometimes we all need a little distraction to clear our head before we get to what’s important in life.

That’s all for me this time folks. May cooler heads prevail when you wanna fight, may all your sickness be on the ramps and bowls, and may you all enjoy more ska in your life.
