March 8th should have been a normal Sunday afternoon on the CU campus, with a beer pong tournament going on. What it became was a bomb scare, as one Sigma Theta Noir sorority sister had her phone hacked. After the tourney, a spoofed text message called for an immediate afterparty at the ΣΘΝ sorority house. Fortunately, as the phones on both ends of the message were in the gym at the time, the sorority sisters were able to quickly compare messages on their phones and uncover the ruse.
While the immediate threat at the house was dealt with, the actual sender of the message is still at large. Hence, most names of involved parties are withheld for security purposes.
As soon as the message was revealed to be a fake, some of the more technologically proficient sorority members and tournament attendees/participants were consulted. Once the difficulty of spoofing a number in such fashion was determined, it followed that what awaited students at the house was, in all likelihood, more dangerous than typical Greek Row hijinks.

“Clearly, whoever sent this message is smart enough to handle the technical aspects of texting from someone else’s number, but also dumb enough to send their message while the spoofed sender and intended recipient are within ten feet of each other.”
-ΣΘΝ sorority president Jizzabelle Lovejoy’s remarks shortly after figuring out the deception.
After some deliberation on a course of action, one quick-thinking friend of the house (who will also remain undisclosed), remarked that whoever sent such a message would want a number of people at the house, possibly for something like a bomb to go off.
So, HPD was called, and eventually, a bomb squad was sent in to search the historic plantation house for threats. None were found, but a suspect has not yet been determined. The investigation is ongoing.
