As previously reported in the Observer, the Hathian Police Department (‘HPD’) have taken over responsibility for campus security. This, arising from a recent attack on campus has had mixed reaction. While on one hand, some believe the presence of experienced officers will help to reduce some of the incidents on campus, but also provide a barrier against more serious items, others, perhaps aware of the HPD’s reputation have been more reluctant to see them around the street of Columtreal.
While one incident won’t likely change the view of students and faculty, the HPD was pleased to let the Observer know that they had affected their first arrest on campus in their drive to keep everyone safe.
As our exclusive photo provided to us by the HPD shows, a heavily tattooed male was stopped by HPD Inspector O’Neill on February 11th on suspicion of controlled substance violations. On investigation the male was found to have controlled substances about his person. After being handcuffed and searched, further illicit traces of drug use were found.
In a sign of a more softly-softly approach to managing first time Columtreal offenders, the Inspector and other arriving officers, including Montanari and the often feared Sgt. Ellis, let the suspect go with a warning and advice about substance abuse and potential avenues for help.
The Observer would like to think that is the first of likely many steps needed to ensure the reputation of the HPD from Hathian changes and morphs to something more acceptable in Columtreal, but we’ll be keeping a close eye on the situation as it evolves.
