Any Shelter in a Storm:? Laveau Asylum

Volume One: Good for the Spirit, not Sure About the Soul!

By: Daiyu Tang

Before the weather gets completely awful, or before the roads get that level of water on them that mean my van (or I or both) float away, I’m trying to visit all the official storm shelters that I’m aware of and gather up some thoughts on where you, my dear readers, should make for if you live in that low lying area I warned you about, or if you live in a shack (or other dwelling likely to disappear in the event of a serious storm).

I’m aware of the Hathian Theatre, which has been taken over by the HGH (for reasons not entirely clear to me their lovely building is closed), the CU Gym (Go Wet Looters!) and this, the Stillwaters Asylum.

That place and I have some history. Not only has the place scared the shit out of me when I cosplayed Daphne, when I’ve had the ‘pleasure’ of a tour I’ve still found it creepy and the objects given to the Luxe of Lunacy event? Creepy AF.

Still as these promotional shots provided by the authorities at the Asylum show, ((click to enlarge)) the place is looking as good as HGH does, if perhaps a little more secure (not that the asylum hides from purpose).

So dear readers, as you’re considering your options for safety you need to weigh up modern looking equipment and clear stocks of food and drink as well as thick walls and high floors (away from floor water!) against the fact the place is a location for ‘America’s Most Haunted’ (or should be). If you go there, bring a friend, or two. Still, considering the raised location and the amenities featured, I’d think it makes sense for many of you in the low lying areas of Laveau. There’s strength (even against the Spirits) in numbers and hey, if I’m just being silly, there’s nothing like a storm outside and being locked in to get some stormy action inside with others.
