One man has been transported to hospital with serious injuries following an assault near the Daily Grind.

The incident occurred at around 4:20 a.m. near Bourbon St.

A unnamed male was reportedly sleeping in the area when he was assaulted.

Paramedics say one patient was taken to a trauma centre in serious but stable condition.

The nature of the man’s injuries is not clear but paramedics said he suffered “penetrating trauma.” Officials would not confirm if the man was stabbed.

A police officer, who wished to remain anonymous, said it was unlikely the department has the resources to investigate the incident further.

Police have not released any information on possible suspects and no arrests have been made.
