New Council & Mayor Sworn In

A new council begun its reign over Hathian’s civic affairs on Saturday, as all four members of the elected council were sworn in (appearing L to R): Cat Mason, Heather Ray, Charis Lemoine, & Aizlynne Argeneau. Judge Stanley Jefferson, Hathian’s oldest surviving magistrate, presided over proceedings, which was a small and simple ceremony. Held in the Civil Services building, each official repeated back their oath of office on a tattered bible, shook his hand, and are now able to go forth with governing over the city.

New challenges await the sitting council, as well as old. Will they clarify the tricky legal marijuana law, which allows only to sell and grow the product, but not use? Will they press on with the previous mayor’s efforts to legalize brothels? Will someone finally fix the potholes that terrorize Bourban Street?

While a separate ceremony was held for newly re-elected mayor Bobby Boxer, the Observer was not informed of nor invited to this, and rumors of the lavish afterparty are (at time of print) unfounded.
