The Titty Twister: An Underground Full of Fun

Tucked away in a corner of Bourbon Street, the Titty Twister sits in a basement almost right under the Hathian Overpass. When you first walk into the building, there is a red curtain that divides the upstairs entrance from the staircase that leads down into the bar. A lone dance pole sits on the stage across from a bar which serves all kinds of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. A couple of private rooms sit around the corner from the bar.

The Observer met with manager Blue Handrick as she served patrons from behind the bar. She wore a stunning blue dress with a single strap around her neck, and her short blonde hair hung just below her ears. Speaking the occasional French, the Twister’s long-time manager took some time to talk with Kate, Observer Reporter, about the business that she calls her “second home”.
Kate: Alright, we’ll start off easy… How long have you been the owner of the Twister?

Blue: Shortly after the flood. God, it’s really more than a decade now, no? The old owner left Hathian back then, and we had to rebuild everything…

Kate: Wow, that’s a really long time to be running the same business. It’s a good thing when there’s stability in ownership, isn’t it? How did you first get into it?

Blue: It s like my second home and family, I guess that is really a good thing. oh, that is a long story. Well, I was one of those young and naive girls when I came to town. Just like most of my girls now when they start out here. No family, no job – just a lot of dreams. Got into trouble with one of the local gangs, of course, and with the HPD – well, and the old owner, Sugita, she took me in so to speak. Let me sleep in one of the backrooms and offered me my first job.

Kate: That’s really great. So you’re here because someone took you in off the streets and gave you a chance. And now you run the place! What different services do you offer here?

Blue: She took me off the streets, and I try to do the same for my girls. Here they are safe, we have security, and make sure that they are paid… oh, all kinds of services. We see our establishment as an all-round entertainment enterprise. We have artists on stage, dancers, singers, live performances – we are organizing events for the town, our bartenders are not just serving drinks, they will also listen and be your priest or counselor if needed, and of course we take care of the physical needs of some of our patrons, too.

Kate: So you have services for both genders then, not just for men?

Blue: Absolutely. A lot of our regulars are female. We offer our services for all genders, preferences and kinks. Almost all kinks.

Kate: Awesome, that’s good to know for the readers, I’m sure. So… you host events and stuff here as well, right? What kinds of events do you put on?

Blue: Oh, all kinds of… as I said, soon we will be part of the Fat Tuesday celebration. Last year we had a Burlesque Show, a themed Halloween party, Venetian Carnival, a BDSM night… And at the moment we are planning a mud wrestling night, an adult fairy tale ball and maybe a singer contest or karaoke night. And we are cooperating with local businesses too, we once had a tattoo contest together with the Poison Apple , and collaborated with Rader for a rave. Of course you can also book us for private events, like birthdays or bachelor parties.

Kate: Okay so… Fat Tuesday is the next event coming up. Why don’t you tell me more about that? When does it happen, what will happen and where, all that stuff?

Blue: Well, traditionally the businesses of Bourbon Street and some befriended clubs and bars organize Mardi Gras. We will have a cocktail booth and probably a stage outside on the street, and of course the girls will dress up and dance. And show their boobs, of course. The ninth of February, all day and all night long. You really shouldn’t miss it

Kate: I remember going to it last year and I had a blast. All the colors and food and drinks… It’s awesome… I think that’s all the questions I have, unless you have anything more you want to add, Blue?

Blue: No, I think that is all , cherie.

Make sure that you head over to the TT for Mardi Gras celebrations on February 9! It’s an annual tradition you don’t want to miss out on!
