A rally, featuring Karn Nevelle, Mayoral candidate, and Grace Johnson, City Council candidate, on Friday after DJ Puddle’s radio show, to discuss campaign platforms.

On Thursday, an anonymous source dropped off Nevelle’s speech that allegedly will be aired during the rally. The Observer has the first look into Nevelle’s campaign.

“A wise man once said that he had a dream, that one day this nation would rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed” to which he quoted the words, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.”

“I am not unmindful that some of you have come here out of great trials and tribulations. Some of you have come fresh from narrow jail cells. And some of you have come from areas where your quest — quest for freedom left you battered by the storms of persecution and staggered by the winds of police brutality. You have been the veterans of creative suffering.”

This city’s hands are dripping with blood, dripping with the blood of the Men and Women that live here. Let the world know how bloody those hands are. Let the world know the hypocrisy that’s practiced over here. Let it be the ballot or the bullet. Let them know that it must be the ballot or the bullet.

When you take your case to City Hall, you’re taking it to the criminals who are responsible; it’s like running from the wolf to the fox. They’re all in it together. They all work political chicanery and make you look like a chump before the eyes of the world.

We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind. We have before us many, many long months of struggle and of potential suffering. You ask, what is our policy? I will say: It is to wage war, against brutality, corruption and unfair practices, with all our might and with all the strength that You can give us; to wage war against a monstrous tyranny, never surpassed in the dark and a lamentable catalog of human crime. That is our policy.

You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word: victory; victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory, however long and hard the road may be; for without victory, there is no survival. Let that be realized; no survival for the people of Hathian, no survival for all that the people of Hathian have stood for, no survival for the urge and impulse of the ages, that mankind will move forward towards its goal.

But I take up my task with buoyancy and hope. I feel sure that our cause will not be suffered to fail. At this time I feel entitled to claim the aid of all, and I say, “Come then, let us go forward together with our united strength.”

Casting that ballot says that we do not distrust the future of essential democracy. The people of Hathian have not failed. In their need they have registered a mandate that they want direct, vigorous action. They have asked for discipline and direction under leadership. They now have a chance to select a present instrument for their wishes. In the spirit of this opportunity, I rise to accept that challenge.”

Join Karn Nevelle and Grace Johnson at their rally on Friday for the full scoop on the campaign. Remember, voting starts on the 27th!
