After a fatal hostage situation at Columtreal University two weeks ago left three dead, Dean Jack Inkpen hopes to reinforce campus safety measures. Among the initial plans, Inkpen said he recently enlisted help from the Hathian Police Department by requesting an officer in each classroom.

“That would be our preferred option,” said Inkpen.

In addition, Inkpen hopes to recruit a six-person security unit to patrol the campus around the clock. The plan also calls for investments in logistical resources such as golf carts, so that campus security officers can efficiently patrol the large geographic area the CU campus encompasses.

Preliminary estimates suggest that implementing such as plan could cost $200,000 or more. CU kickstarted its fundraising efforts last week, but the initial cost to implement the plan exceeds the what the university has raised by more than double. Nevertheless, Inkpen hopes to proceed with the plan while he and his advisors continue to negotiate with local agencies.
