A recent baby boom and subsequent mothers applying for Medicaid alerted government officials. The governor sent a crack team of officials to investigate the alarming trend.

After several months of investigation, tests, and observing, the team discovered that huge amounts of fertility drug, Ovultine, had contaminated Hathian’s water supply. The source for exposure has yet to be identified, but investigators narrowed down two possibilities: intentional exposure by scientists in New Orleans’ Mercy Hospital or an accident during shipping in one of Louisiana’s worst storms since Katrina.

Water treatment centers report the water is safe to drink, despite contamination; however health officials urge women to take precautions to avoid unwanted pregnancies.
