Emergency services responded to reports of a fire in Block Bottom shortly after 5pm on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021. As some firefighters worked to douse the flames, others searched the house for anyone inside. Members of the fire department pulled three people from the burning home of Amadeus Richards.
Those who were pulled from the fire were Richards, the homeowner; Hathian Fire Department Chief Vie Lannock; and Lannock’s infant daughter, Ivy. While both Lannocks seemed to be in good health, Richards was taken to Hathian General Hospital with smoke inhalation. Emergency services were alerted to the fire by a 9-1-1 call where the caller said she had set the fire to stop “her” from coming around. The caller also identified herself as the wife of Richards.
The home was badly damaged in the fire, but police were able to conduct a search of the house once the fire was extinguished. HPD Officer Sonja Valencia found drugs, related paraphernalia, and a weapon. Mark Coletti, HFD senior firefighter, assessed the house fire as suspicious and deemed the cause as probable arson.
In April of this year, Richards kidnapped Lannock’s teenage daughter, Liz. Effort to locate the young Lannock resulted in police breaking down the door of the pocket motel behind the theater, where the teen was found. Richards was charged with kidnapping and sexual assault. Charges from other arrests include obstruction, assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest, aggravated sexual assault, conspiracy, aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, and vandalism. Richards had been arrested numerous times on charges of kidnapping and sexual assault.
The Hathian Police Department is seeking Maggie Richards. Anyone with information on her whereabouts is encouraged to notify HPD.
