Officials from Hathian General Hospital are warning citizens to be on alert after an outbreak of chicken pox cases are being reported. The origin of the virus is not known, though many of those seeking treatment seemed to have been around the central area of Main Street, particularly near Gein Burger’s temporary trailor home.

It takes between 10 and 21 days after contact with an infected person for someone to develop chickenpox (this is known as the chickenpox incubation period), and one is contagious during most of this period.

From HGH: “The most common treatment aside from giving the Varicilla vaccine is prescribing acetaminophen (such as Tylenol) or ibuprofen (such as Advil) to reduce fever and discomfort.  Also, over-the counter oral antihistamines may help reduce itching.  Oatmeal baths and soothing lotions that don’t contain antihistamines such as calamine lotion or Aveeno may also help.”
